Your gear selection for muskies.

Question; if I use my braided line that I use on my flippin' stick for bass, am I hurting myself?
I have caught lots of pike on my medium weight spinning outfit with 12-14 LB test with steel leader, but if I am going to be throwing 1oz + buck tails I feel like I should be using my MH bait casting outfit. I don’t really want to go out and get all new riggin’ for muskie, so for now it’s the heavy bass gear. Is it worth re spooling one of my bait casters with fluorocarbon or really heavy mono? Braid should work ok for spinners and some big swim baits no?

Your bass gear spooled with one of the super braids will get ya started nicely. I'd go with a min of 30lb braid and 50 is even better. It'll cast alot better than the thin stuff and won't dig in on it'self like the smaller diameter lines will. Leaders are a must unless you like donating lures and killing fish.

You're good to go Wilkstr.
Leaders: Everyone seems to be afraid to put on a leader thinking these fish know what one is? I think not. I've caught more smallies over 4 on musky baits(with leaders) and 65lb Power Pro than I ever did fishing for them with 8lb mono. A reflex strike is just that.
You're wire leaders will serve you well.
