You can fish Tapps through Sunday.Off limits then from Monday until the day of the Tourney. Our Chapter Tourney Director sent emails to all the Chapter members. The week before the Tourney is common practice. Even bass Tourneys...You can always fish the lake the couple weeks before the "no fish time"..Then you kinda have to look a what we are fishing for. Not that many Muskies compared to bass. Just email Deadeye and he can give you the lowdown..Todd

I've been fishing bass tourneys for more than 25 years now and they're run many different ways. One of the things I like about most of them is the Off Limits period prior to the event. Sore-mouthing a bunch of bass on my best spots will not help my chances of cashing a check on tourney day and there are lots of bass out there.
One of the biggest and best run bass tourneys I fish every year has an official pre-fish day on the Fri prior to the tourney on Sat and Sun. This is very controversial. We all get on the water on this day. I don't fish my spots. I fish new water hoping to learn something new. Everyone else is doing the same thing. I'm fishing their spots and they're fishing mine. Do you really think the fish we catch will be actively biting the next day on the same baits that just gave them a bad experience? I don't.
Research shows us how seldom a musky feeds even at peak periods and ideal water temps. Do you think that catching a couple muskies or more would affect the outcome of a tournament a day or two later? I certainly do. There are a lot fewer muskies than there are bass. It's hard enough in a tourney to register a fish without a bunch of folks hitting the lake hard all week prior to an event. And yes, if it was 'open' it would be hit hard. I"ve seen it to many times over the years.
As far as out-of-towners goes, they're my main concern for the off limits period. They can't get on the water all week prior to the event because of work obligations and long distances to the lakes in question. The locals on the other hand could and would fish it during the week. Just sight fishing and reading your electronics will give a person a good advantage over someone not having a chance to get out that week.
Everyone wishing to fish any of these events does have the opportunity to pre-fish the lake whether they live far or near.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion and this is mine. This is not meant to offend anyone, it's just how I feel on the subject.

I'm not sure how many tournaments you have fished before but this is common practice. You get a prefish period to fish and learn the lake then the 5 day week before you are not to fish. Check the B.A.S.S, PWT, and the Musky Tourney Tour they all do it the same. In your travels across the internets check these those sites out. Besides, Deadeye sent emails to all the members with all the same info. Just read it again..the answers are there. The powers that be are those who seem to think its unfair or unjust and want the rules changed. When in fact, the rules have been the same since our Chapters' inception and since the tourneys have been going throughout the U.S...And yes these rules are official!! And if you worried about being shot run fast, low and never run in a straight line.. Hope this helps..see yah

You guys are right, these rules do seem to be common practice on other tournament circuits. I apologize for my ignorance! I'll see you guys saturday and I'll be looking for a 10 pound Largemouth this week! Mike.
