Things are heating up!

Post by dougw » Mon Jun 06, 2011 2:59 am

Brush the dust off the boats. The tigers are getting active. Released this nice 44 1/4" tiger on Silver Lake on Saturday. Heard of a 47" fish getting released as well same day. Saw 3 follows besides this fish as well.

Nice coloring. Is that fish have a kinked back or is it just because it is laying over your arm?

No kinked back. Just the way I was holding her. This is the third fish this summer I have caught that has the yellow pigmentation. Kind of cool. She put up a fantastic fight. The more I think of it, it was likely one of the best fights I have had. I say that because I handled her on my heavier tackle, and she fought like she was on my light tackle! I didn't think of that at the time. When I first hooked her, I told Mark I had a fish, nothing special. Turned out she was quite a bit bigger than I anticipated. That's always a bonus!

Nice fish Doug,,

This year has been great so far,, already caught 3 tigers up to 40" on the fly,, the buddy I am fishing with he is throwing hardware and he is getting disgusted with me, I don't think he is going to let me on his boat anymore. I am out fishing him. 3 tigers this year and I haven't even been to Curlew yet..

One thing is they don't fight as well as I was hoping,,( like say a tarpon) and they are not as technical to catch as a largemouth bass. But they are still fun..

Great fish, Doug! I like the way you show off the fish to it's best advantage - and this one has striking stripes, NICE.
Keep those pictures coming - it keeps us all inspired!:)
Tiger Muskies are sterile.
You can't keep them under 50 inches:

I see you made the Muskie Inc. magazine this month Doug. Great pic and article about your fishing trip. It's great that you took that man and his son out fishing, I'm sure they appreciated it even though the weather and fish didn't cooperate.#-o

They were very excited to get on the lake! I did it for the kid. I could tell he was really excited to go out on a boat. Wish it had been better conditions, but par for the course this spring (and that day) was not the best. I think they still had a good time. It sure lit that kid's eyes up when I said they could come with me!

Hey Doug,
Congrats on the Nice Size Tiger!!! I'm hoping for something like that this coming weekend on Tapps during our second tournament of the year!
Glad to see that your story was published in this months magazine, You definitely deserve that!!! If I could do something like that every weekend for a kid I would do it in a heartbeat!!! It's so cool to get stories like yours, who knows you may have just brought the next big Muskie angler into the ESOX family. You know what would be really cool is to get a kids of Muskies chapter 57 and 60 tournament put together just for the kids that are a part of the 57 and 60 family!!! Can You imagine what kind of story that would be, Yes that means we would be the drivers and Netmen and Women and let the kids show us how they can make magic happen!!! Good luck the rest of this season, I will give you a shout when Im back over on the East end. Tight Lines

Nate
