Im thinking about hiting tokul creek for my first time. Im wondering where to go, what spots and what to use. Also when is it too high to fish? Thanks

Never too high to fish. It's pretty small. Not really any "spots" per se either. Lots of people hike up to the hatchery intake, but you can find spots anywhere along the way. There is really only one place to park and you hike it from there. Just show up and see what others are doing. Mostly corky/yarn on a short leader and light weight or a float with a short leader and and the same or eggs. Expect a crowd as it's not a very large stream.

16" leader, corkie, 1/0 hook. Fish anywhere you can find an open spot. Its a floss fest up there

Flosser and snagger paradise. You've been warned lol.

Really? Tokul is nothing but a floss and snag fest. Next to ZERO steelhead holding water.

Mini pocket holes behind rocks and bass flipping techniques, don't even need to cast. When one thinks of flossing we think of ultra long leaders, but in fishing tokul the trick is short leaders under a foot long as your rig gets washed down stream so quickly. At least that's how I recall fishing it years ago. I did hook one and had it run straight down the creek, lost in the brush. Not my thing either.

A few years back, a young boy landed a 17 or 18# hatchery on Tokul. I remember it was so huge, it came up to his chest. He won 3 Rivers durby with that fish!

Bobberdownchromer...go out and try it for yourself and see if it's your thing or not. Don't depend on what others think about it. You can just walk the creek and anywhere you can access the water, you can drop a line. Tiny chunk of pencil lead and 12" leader...you get a few seconds of drift each cast because it's so shallow and fast.

Ive never been, because well, i dont even like reiter. But it cant be any worse than the samish. I know alot of guys on here That fish the samish and dont take part in the snag fest.

Do you need the exact coordinates of the boulders Springer Jerry? Your one annoying son of a ***** you know that?

There are boulders there, its not a snag fest unless you are zen and the art of snagging..3-5 sec drift snagging? If someone made a rip there gear would be all up in trees and bushes....

Lot of people on here like to talk about places they don't even fish, its hilarious. This Springer Jerry guy always throws his 2 cents in, and sometimes its flat out garbage....

I really am curious about this zen snagging technique. I don't wish to employ such action however it sounds very intriguing and similar to a video I watched, check it out

Now the one thing I will say is that the fish in the video are clearly hungry and drawn to the offering. Still reminds me of Tokul quite a bit.

Don't listen to anyone telling you to drift fish there. Bobber dog some eggs and you'll be catch twice as many fish. For some reason people are under the impression that you have to snag or floss these fish, when that couldn't be further from the truth. I love to fish that river, and I see it all the time. They hold behind the boulders, in the pockets, and they move around quite a bi, especially when there are a ton of guys stomping around. But seriously, someone needs to end the stupid 12 inch leader nonesense out there. But in the meantime, those of us that fish roe will out fish ya'll 3 to 1 so do what you want.

tokul creek isnt open till jan 15 2015? Please let me know if there was a rule change.

They opened it early as the hatchery had the brood stock they needed. There was an article on the Times, and an update on the rules update page on WDFW. They also upped the limit to 3 steelhead for Cascade river since they are not collecting eggs there.

How long of a leader do you bobber dog with there?

I'll never understand how a benign "to each their own" attitude can morph into name-calling, mocking, and taking on superior airs about things. There are a few here who generally think everyone else are either idiots, poor anglers, or in need of some type of abuse and they're the ones to provide it since they are God's gift to the angling world. Then they get banned and cry about not knowing why, when in reality they know exactly what they're doing and having a good old time stirring the pot and seeing what comes out.

If you think I'm talking about you - I am. So don't even respond.

Now, back to Tokul Creek pocket hole fishing. For those that are interested. If it's not your thing just move on...
