I can't manage to get any fish in Duwamish river

Post by dibando » Fri Oct 10, 2014 2:15 pm

I been trying on Duwamish river for like a month now, but i can't seem to get any fish yet. I tried drifting eggs, on bobber, plunking spin N glow, and on spinner bait, but i can't even get any bite yet.
I fished at Codiga park (mostly), Allen town, and 112th street.

Do you have any tips for me? I live near Codiga par, so i would like to know any locations near it for bank fishing.

From what I'm reading the Duwamish is hard fishing right now. I'm pretty much a newbie to salmon fishing myself and have spent the past 3 months doing all the reading, research, and video watching on every aspect of how to fish salmon and it seems with the temperatures the past month, the netting by the Natives, and the lack of huge schools pushing through the system right now fishing is hard. I've been out on the Duwamish in similar spots you have 4 times and have yet to even get more than a nibble or baitfish chasing my offering.

Tip: try to fish at low tide. I've heard that's the best time on the Duwamish near Seattle to try and get at a group of fish stacked up in water that might bite on your bait. It seems most of the fish coming up into the system right now are shy and aren't really staying around or aren't "in the mood" to really strike rather shooting straight down river to spawning grounds. Watch for rain and be out on that river shortly after the river stops looking blown out for, what I'm hearing, some "crazy good times".
“I’m not going to catch any fish in the forest using a steak knife as bait. Still, I’ve got to try.”

When in doubt…twitching jigs!

Seriously though, sorry to hear you've been having such a hard go of it. Frankly, I don't see a lot of fish caught when I'm out. Seems like most people I've met are in your shoes. I'd say your best bet is to pick up and start moving. Go find some holes along the Green River Trail that don't get as much pressure. Stalk the Coho like you would bass. Sounds dumb, but it works. They'll hold in next to structure and cut banks where there isn't any pressure just like bass will.
Good luck!

I fished early sometime too, but still no bite. I also notice that i have lost so many hooks and lures when i try to drift. So i recently, started to plunking more on all tides level.

I might give up and wait for pink salmon next year :nemo:

I agree with this. The Green River is looooooonnng. There a few places along the trail that look like magical forest wonderland yet are 5 minutes from the Wendy's.

Unfortunately the recent hot weather and lack of rain has made it harder. Fish the morning, like losaturn said.

Still trying, myself.... ;)
