I am going to Kennedy Creek for the first time and reading the regs, it states you can keep 6 and up to 2 adults. So, how many Chum can one keep and how do you identify an adult?

I just answered my own question. Per the regs :) It says you may retain 6 but minimum size is 12" which per the regs, 12" constitutes an adult pink, chum and sockeye :P So the limit is 2! haha and apparently you can use barbed hooks as well.

good luck, we've had fish in the creek for a couple weeks.
I volunteer down at the salmon trail, if your fishing most any saturday in november from 10-4 stop by and say hi while watching fish.

Saw a bunch of trucks parked at the pulloff when I went through tonight, and several headlights still out there on the water.

At 8:45.

p.m.

Guess they dont concern themselves with the regs much.

Wow! That's a bit late. I do have a bared/barbless question. The wdfw gal was zero help on it. Can you use barbs on Kennedy? All it says is night closure and anti snag rule. Says nothing about barbless or barbs in there. Under the selective gear is barbless. She kept saying barbs make you snag therefore it's covered under there, and I tried telling her that you could snag with anything and barbs didn't matter.

i'm pretty sure you can't but not 100%. I wouldn't risk a ticket.

I definitely didn't, but if you read the regs as written, it says nothin about barbed or barbless??

I havent fished kennedy before but if it doesnt say barbless or selective gear rules, then you can fish with barbs. But you have to be careful because you have to go barbless in the salt water. So where you fish would be the determiner and where the high tide mark is in the estuary.

What about brackish water? She kept alluding to marine area 13 for the rules, but I showed her Kennedy had its own set. I just don't understand how it is that complicated lol

the selective gear is above 101, salmon is closed there. the guys are fishing the downsream side that goes 500 yards from the bridge to the salt.
it dosen't say anything on hooks and it isn't part of MA13 but you may have to argue that to a gamey but i'm now under the impression its legal.

It all depends on where the mouth of kennedy is. If you fish below the mouth barbless. Mouth to northbound hwy 101 bridge its anti snagging.

the mouth is 500 yards east of the northbound lane. unless your floating on something your probably not going to get close to that. its mudflat where you may sink to your armpits.

Looks like you have technically only 500 yards of river you can legally fish. Its always safe to go barbless. Dont use too stiff of a rod and you wont lose fish.

Oh I am using barbless and know how to catch fish in there, I just want clarification on barb or barbless there. It seems the wdfw doesn't even know! If all we have to go by is the regs, and it doesn't say if it is or isn't, how can they ticket you for that?

It used to say "barbless required" in the regs for Kennedy. That language appears to be missing in the current regs. So it seems that barbs are now legal.

Btw while the regs say that 500 yards are available for fishing, realistically only about 200 yards are fish able from shore. So you would never have to worry about walking into ma11

based on the text of the current rules (e.g., barbless hooks are not mentioned as being specifically required), barbs are legal.

You might want to use barbless anyways, since they're chums and a lot of them get accidentally foul hooked at kennedy. It is a serious pain in the @ss to release a tail hooked chum--having a barbless hook will make it easier. Plus, the fish there are usually thick when they are in, and so it's not going to be a big deal to lose a fish here and there due to a barbless hook

If it doesn't state otherwise then that means its legal when it comes to gear and bait restrictions.

So I thought, until I was then told by WDFW that it is left to interpretation of the officer. ??

Pretty common, Officer gets the say so till it goes before a Judge. Ask Danny about that!
