Northwest Fishing Reports

Just curious if anyone here has any experience using artificial roe made by companies like xfactor or ez eggs? My supply is running a bit low so I'm curious if they actually do work.

I've heard good things about EZ eggs, but only in regards to Steelhead and don't have any direct experience with them.

Pretty much read the same thing. Was hoping to try the out on some coho's so ill probably just give it a shot and see how it goes.

I imagine it can't be any worse than corky and yarn, so worth a shot. I've read the milking action and color of roe is what makes it good for Coho, but again, no direct experience to say otherwise.

I use the pom pom puff balls from the craft store a lot.... Let them soak in your egg goo and when you run out of bait, they work well in a pinch...

I keep reading that they take scents pretty well so I may soak it in some oils overnight and hope maybe they'll milk a lot. I'm guessing it will all depend on the mood of the fish as always but we'll see.

Best part is you can buy them in any size and any color, and use them and tie them in an egg loop just like yarnies or thread them on like a corky with a large sewing needle... I always keep one in my tackle box just for threading the Pom Poms

Do you soak them overnight or have you found there's no difference between doing that vs a few mins when you're out in the water?

I just throw a handful in the roe container and if I don't use them, I will transfer over to new container or place in ziplock bag... The scent / juice will stay a long time...

The guy was using x factor eggs and he was slaying them! look in his video and he shows how he sets them up.

yeah i use yarn balls soaked in leftover egg cure/juice or some pro cure or smelly jelly, different days call for different scents, yarn balls are cheap and fast to make, but i also knot a colored piece of rubber band onto it so when the scent runs out or if i want to change color i can peel it off the hook easily, and i tried rubber egg clusters and they work okay, scented the same as the yarnies or you can sure some shrimp up

Thanks for the info guys. Gonna try to out the some xfactor roe and Pom poms to use next to actual roe to see how it all goes next time.

I ordered some xfactor eggs last night because i used all of mine yesterdays trip and im gunna soak em in some egg juice even tho they come with roe and shrimp scent, also i was wondering if i buy some eggs from the store and put a little fire cure and then dry them and put some borax o fire on would they hit them?

I've read of people buying some store bought eggs, re-curing them overnight some and using it with success.

Thats what ill be doin, ill prob get 3 little tubs of rays fish candy and cure em up again!

I've caught plenty of fish on yarn balls and scent, probably more than I have on eggs. As far as fake eggs, they work, but not as well as real ones. I prefer Power Bait Power Eggs. Magic. Store bought eggs fish at about 10% of the effectiveness of home cured eggs. Re-curing them does not do much for 'em, unless they're all mushing or something. Doesn't make them more appetizing. Make sure they are bright red and don't smell fishy when you buy them.

If I'm in a pinch, and must buy bait from the store, I don't buy roe. Sand shrimp are much better from the store. They're alive, you know if they're bad because they are dead. And fish eat them right up. The reason I'm running eggs right now in particular is not just because the silver will eat them, but that the pinks usually won't. But coho will gobble up some shrimp until you can catch another hen.

Ok so ill get 2 tubs of eggs, some shrimp and i have the xfactor eggs shipping right now, i think i can get into a few! So you use yarnies for coho!?
