Got a question for you all.My girlfriend lives close to Duwamish mouth, and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice in regards to river access. I have fished Metzler park once before, for chums, but never hit the river for silvers before. I was wondering if had any good spots of access for silvers, not really sure at all where to access the river, and she would be more then thrilled to hook into a coho. I mainly fish the skykomish system and would be grateful if anyone had some good access areas?

I am glad you posted this. I was just going to post something similar as I am interested in checking out some spots on the Duwamish, but I am a little intimidated with where to access the river and be able to fish. Can anybody with experience on this river give us a little insight on where to go?

Also, is there too much boat traffic to feel comfortable fishing from a kayak in there?

Kayak would be fine. All the boat traffic is very slow. As for finding a spot on the bank, Head down West Marginal and start looking. There are also several green belt areas I'll bet one could get through to the river. Look'em up on a map. Come to think of it there are a couple small parks right on the river under Spokane St.

I've seen people launch kayaks at 112th St. There is a small parking lot at Cecil Moses Park and it'd be a bit of a bushwhack to get your boat down to the water.

Lots of access but you need to look at google maps and do some research. Grab a bicycle and start riding the Green River Trail, you'll find places.

The higher up river you go the better the fish taste. Catching the fish in the estuary have what we call "The Duwie Taste"Fish up stream may be a lil bit darker but the taste is far better then the lower river.Just my 2 cents worth

I have to disagree, in my experience in the lower river those fish are not in that system long enough to effect the taste of the fish. Me personally I would much rather have a fish with sea lice still clinging to it's nether reigions than a darker upstream fish.

agreed on the lower river tasting and looking better as they are fresh out of the salt. There is also an access off of East Marginal that most people don't realize and has some good casting spots as well as being able to launch a small boat. It is just after you come off the viaduct heading south on your right sort of by where the WSLB office used to be. It will have a sign for public access as well and easy to miss but realize this is marine area 10 as anything down river from the 1st avenue bridge is considered the salt water.

Those fish spend so much time in the lower river, that they are fire trucked boots by the time they get to the upper river. I've caught some in the lower river this week, that were already blushed up. A side by side comparison with a chrome fish, showed deterioration in the color and firmness of the fillets.

@gniffer" The lower river around Tukwilla, has been putting out some fish. There's a lot of bank access by the Tukwilla community Center, and at Codiga Park. Check the tides before going if you plan on fishing bait.

I think you are referring to Diagonal Park at the end of Diagonal Ave. Fished there in years past but never caught anything (that's not to say you couldn't). Did get to see a nude photo shoot while fishing there once though

I fish the Allentown community center also. Parking is very nice. I just park and walk down 50 yards to the river. Maybe Im more spoiled then othgers but I generally dont eat fish out of Elliot Bay, Commencement Bay,or the Snohomish mouth. To me (in my opinion) the fish taste like industrial fish.JMO
