We're heading to forks this weekend for summer steelhead was wondering how do you access Tall Timbers or the opposite side of the calawah ponds from the bank?

For the Calawah confluence there is a logging road that you take off of LaPush road. You then drive around through the woods for quite a ways. There are a lot of wrong turns you can take, I suggest a GPS.

Are there parking areas or trails so you know you at the right place.

I think that road is still closed...Not sure though. As for the opposite side of the Calawah Ponds, only way I know is to wade across from the shallow rapids at the end of the tailout.

The opposite side of the Calawah is what I was talking about. As of last winter the road was open. Not sure now. Haven't been out there this summer.

Not really. You really should invest in a GPS if you don't have one. That's really the only way you'll find the good spots. The locals, and even myself, are pretty tight lipped about the money spots.

I'm not going to give you a google map to all the good spots. The Calawah confluence isn't a big secret, it's sort of a ***** to get to though on the other side. I'm not going to complain if someone does tell him about it, but if you want all the goodies, you have to pay me. I'm starting to get really annoyed at the snooty OP folks though, so I'm going to give away more and more just to spite them. The road to the Calawah is connected to goodman mainline, although you can't really get there from that end a map will give you a good idea of where you have to go.

I was on google maps and saw a logging road off of la push hwy (not goodman) that looked like it brings you too both tall timbers and Calawah ponds but it looked like quite a walk from the logging road and river and also there were a lot of different roads that could mess you up.
Hey Nate (or anyone) could you pm me some good spots to try on the Bogy or sol ducs for summer runs?

Lake ck? You can hike to it, but it's not really an easy spot to find. I kinda know where it is, but I've never fished there my self. Also, when you said the opposite side of the Calawah ponds, you're talking about the hatchery ponds right?

yeah, right before the rapids/tail out of the ponds theres that little gravel bar on the other side of the river, I saw people over there walking down from a trail and was wondering what road got them there. Also i heard lake ck is a good hole on the sol duc but I have never been there.

If you don't want to share the river, and some of the places that are well known, than I think you're probably not among the nice anglers. I hate hearing folks complain about crowds, getting irritable on the river if there's someone within 300 yards. This is a fishing information website. The amount of fishable river have been cut in half in the last 10 years, they're not planting anymore. The number of fishermen is not decreasing, in fact it's increasing. So get used to it. Every time I get hate mail from an OP snob, I'm going to post another article on a "secret" spot. Because I know them all. And knowing the spot doesn't mean you'll be able to catch fish, giving away information actually helps my business, it doesn't hinder it.

That's the road to the other side of the Calawah ponds. Not sure if the gate is open, but you drive down the road. I'd reccomend a 4x4, it gets dicey near the end. After a couple of turns it comes out at the end, a short walk across a clear cut to the river.

Not causing trouble, and I wasn't talking about you. You'll know who I'm talking about when they show up. #-o It just drives me nuts when we talk about far off places and people get angry. Pretty sure the thread got locked, but there's a great one about the salmon river last winter.

is that the counfluence?, The ponds are up Where it's all frog water, and shallow. Real long stretch all the way to the hatchery intake. As for lake ck, I've heard its good too, just haven't had time to find it.
