Northwest Fishing Reports

Hey guys, so usually I dont need help with this stuff. But im not much of a hardware fisherman. My brother asked me to baby sit for him today, i did so and for return hes buying me a new rod on Saturday. Im keeping it under $100.

What are some good rods for hardware fishing, ill be throwing light weight lures, and small jigs. Not bobber and jigs. just straight jigs.

Im going to be using the rod for pinks, and silvers. Maybe steelhead if i eventually get out to doing so. Im driving now so eventually ill be out there as well for steelies. As of right now just pinks and silvers.

Im thinking about the Lamiglass X-11, 8-12lb line 8'6 or 9'6
Opinions? Thanks in advance.

The X-11 would be a pretty good choice for the price. Of course there are better choices, but probably not for under 100$. Though I sometimes use my Okuma SST for hardware and it does fine.
Anyhow, for rod length I would personally go with the 9'6 for hardware. I don't often use hardware or straight jigs. But from what I hear it's better to use a lighter, longer rod. From experience as well, I've found this to be better. But every one has their on opinion on rods, it can really come down to preference.

You'll want something noodly, with a bit of backbone in it. For pinks, I would use a 4-8, the SST side drifter is nice it's a 9'6" and can cast a 1/4 ounce jig a good distance. Get a good light tackle rod and you'll be able to throw lighter spinners and other stuff as well. I don't have any experience with the X-11's, I swore off lamiglas for good a while ago. The 4-6 10'6" Shimano Convergence was a great coho twitching rod for me last year, and would be killer for humpies.

Alright, thanks for thew feedback ! I already have a convergence, and was thinking about getting another one. Ive never owned a lami so I was wondering about those.

x-11 and berkely IM8 airs are really nice, 8'6-9'6 for jig tossing and spinners/spoons

I have a dedicated Humpy/trout set up that I've used for years. Okuma SST 10'6" ML Float/Drift rod paired with a Pleuger President spinning reel spooled with 8# braid. I can cast a 1/4 oz jig as far as most guys cast thier big ol buzzbomb and EVERY fish feels like a big one.

Well I think im going to get a SST. I bought a Plueger President the other day, I might pair it with an SST.

Youll get a really well balanced set up if you pair the president with the air or x-11

^What she said...Though the Okuma's are good too, just not my preference.

My vote is on the x-11... soft enough tip for what you want to use it for, and backbone to back it up lol. I think the 9'6" would be a lot of fun and perfect for the application.

I have an SST 8'6"M(8-12) and Convergence 9" MH (8-12) that do not cast the lighter stuff well. So the above post is the way I will go to have fun with the humpies.

I do have a beautiful Fenwick HMX 9'9" (6-12) casting rod that I've never used, but I am determined to find a good reel
match and give it a whirl. It seems much better suited to the lighter hardware.

Sidenote: When I broke my Convergence in my window, Shimano sent me a new one free.
