Stealing Coho From The Snaggers

Post by RiverChromeGS » Wed Nov 14, 2012 7:40 pm

Well, I just got back from an awesome trip to the chehalis/satsop rivers, had a great time fishing with my Dad who doesnt get to fish much, and caught everything from dark kings, to huge chums to chromer hooknose coho! We drifted the east fork of the satsop mid-river one day, and the chehalis the next, both days were great. 19 coho on the chehalis and 3 kings, too many chums and limits of coho on the satsop.

HOWEVER, on to the real story, on the day we were suppose to leave, I decided to drive up to bank fish the satsop for a hour to so before leaving for home, i fished upriver on the east fork near Decker creek. I got to the hole and had it to myself, but before i could tie my rods up, 3 super snaggers moved in, crowded right into my hole and started ripping as hard as possible. WTF? i wanted to leave, but with lots of fish rolling i decided to stay for a minute... immediately the snaggers started snagging chum in the tail, and getting spooled and broken off. My only chances to cast were when the broke snagged chums off, it was ridiculous. However, knowing chums arent huge on eggs, I threw eggs into the hole when i had the chance, and, knowing coho LOVE eggs and chum dont really (not as much as jig shrimp or corkee yarn) i immediately nail a nice 12 lb CHROME buck coho! mark it, and back to it, then a couple chum on eggs followed by 2 casts in a row with 2 coho, lost one and landed another 12 lb chromer buck.

so the snagger then says, "wish i woulda brought my eggs today, first day i left it at home" and I get PISSED and turn to him and say "Ya right... you guys are straight snaggers, you have never caught a legal fish in your lives and your pathetic, you can have the hole and snag all the dirty chums you want, im leaving with my limit" after a couple threats as i turn my back, it was over, but i had to say something THEY COULD HAVE CAUGHT MORE FISH ON BAIT, but decided to snag... ricidulous, but it was awesome to pull the chrome right out from underneath them!!! heres pics from the trip!

NICE!!!!!!!!! i love pulling fish out from under the nose of snaggers! and those are some beauties!

I tend to get a little temper towards people who choose that method of fishing, espically when they are sturring up a hole that im trying to fish

haha thanks! i had to wait until i had my fish so I could avoid messing things up, but once i was done i had to say something, they were full on 15 foot leaders with hooksets so hard the water splashed up in my face, HAHA it was unreal pathetic, and without them i wouldnt doubt if i woulda hit a ton of coho, they were spooking the hole tuff

That's great! Now you're down fishing my home rivers, what do you think? The water and the fish are a lot different than up here where we roll. I love those flat deep holes that they make down there, the sticks and logjams.

Ha! Nothing better than pulling fish out from under snaggers and walking out with a limit and a grin. I've gotten to do it twice this year, so sweet!

Great looking fish you Freak. Was that one fish a jack chum? It didnt look like a coho or a king? The coloring was toward a goldish color. Interesting looking fish. The Satsop is one of my favorite coho rivers and right now is peak fishing.

it’s like when I went to the dungy, across the river there was a log jam and 6 people with trebles gripping and ripping. I was fishing the side of the jam, out fished them easy and I heard a dad tell his sun look he actually caught the fish IN THE MOUTH.. proving the ignorance is not the reason the snaggers are breaking the law. Yep, RACFISH, the coho have only been in a week on the satsop they say, and its unbelievable people wont even try legally before snagging like that, lowlife losers!

Nice fish, & a beauty silver chum on top there. Too bad about the snaggers & cool you one up'ed them. Sounds like they knew exactly what they were doing. I've ran into a few snagger/flossers that didn't really know any other way to fish. If that's the case...I might give them some fishing advice if they are willing to listen....

It seems the locals (from others ive talked to) on the satsop dont really care about catching fish legally, this is just what they do, unfortunate really...
