Pay it forward.....

I want to share this story from last weekend. I was fishing the Notellum River for some Chrome Metal. I arrived at the hole way before sunrise, I like being the first guy on the river.

Anyways, this bumbling loud guy comes strolling down the river bank. He had, "I am a Newb" written all over him. He was garnering a huge tacklebox, there was plastic wrapper still on his rod handle, he just looked all out of sorts. I really tried to ignore him, but one thing I am trying to do this year, is to help out those who want help.

Long story short, he had zero gear for bobber/jig fishing. The only thing going for him was a positive attitude, patience and the willingness to learn. I set him up with everything I would use. He tried to give me a $20, but I shook my head and told him, "It's all good, just pay it forward." He understood. We fished for about 5 hours without any takedowns, and the bite was slow all day. We exchanged numbers and I left the river making a new friend.

He just called me about an hour ago. The immediate excitement from this grown man was intoxicating. "I got my first Steelie Jens! Not only that I got my limit!!"

The feeling of catching your first Steelhead I think tips to the side of being feminine, but that is debatable. I am pumped for him. I did forget to mention he was going to "glowfloss" for them when we first met last Sunday. He refuses to fish for Steelhead that way for them now. Just sayin....

Thats good stuff and cool that you took the time to help out a fellow angler. If it wasn't for this website and all of the people that share there knowledge on this forum . I wouldn't have caught half the fish that I have caught .

Thanks for the good words boys, I know I bicker back and forth with a few members and from reading the bicker, it can be misconstrued as dislike, but honestly I am good friends with some. The bottomline is, if it weren't for this website, I wouldn't have gained the knowledge I have acquired not to mention the friendship that I have made via here. I plan to continue to pay it forward not for personal gain, but to hopefully show others my passion for fishing as well as clean up the rivers I love to fish.

Let me rephrase then since there seems to be alot of people that dont know Jens and I fish together and text back and forth and I even know where he lives. Ive been to his house. He gives me crap bout drift fishing I give him crap bout bobber fishing. Sorry if that comment had offended anyone here. But really I didnt comment on anyone else other then Jensen. I try to pay forward all the time. I have offered up alot of advise to people about fishing rivers. I answer all pms I get and help out when I can. Im not sure why some people are so sensitive.

Hey, if you can't give your fishing buds a bad time then who. That would make us take it out on the family and we all know were that would lead.:bom:

Great story and thanks for sharing. Made my day. I think if more people did things like that, the fishing community would be better off. I'm sure a lot do, but if more did...just sayin' Like Bodofish said...GOOD KARMA

So after reading jens story i was so impressed, I had to rush out and take my turn at teaching someone glowflossin as hed say. We went to a river that no one ever goes on to hook fish hardly anyone hooks. Needless to say my new buddy hooked a steelie on his 3rd cast. He's hooked for life and no way he'll fish with those darn bobbers and jigs. Drift fishing for life.

They are all good habits if they are legal.

Now jens teach then some spoons and they will be hooked when they feel that strike. Love a bobber down but nothing beats the strike off a spoon.

Either way nice to see people are teaching others how to fish no matter what way it is, just as long as it's legal.
