Ok so i paid for my salmon/steelhead license back in April but have yet to put it to use. I have tomorrow off and want to try my luck but dont know which river i should try. I cant go to any of the Columbia river tributaries since i didnt purchase the extra license for that. Any suggestions on the go to river? Thanks

Most rivers are low and clear right now but there are still fish. The best bet though would be a peninsula river like the Bogey, still lots of hatcheries around and natives starting to show. Local rivers can be hit and miss.

Buy the endorsement and hit the cow, its at the perfect level.

You are awful far south otherwise I would say the Skagit has been putting out some quality fish, the sky is always an option as well but they have been few and far between up there too. Peninsula is your best bet if you have the motivation to travel and don't want to hit a trib of the Big C.

There's always the Nisqually for chums. Should be fine right now, haven't been down there this year but my dad's friend has caught 6-10 fish the 3 times he's been out.

I second that. It's the one endorsement you will need if you happen to catch river fever like the rest of us. There isn't a season that the Cowlitz doesn't have fish in it. You will be glad you did once you start hooking up there.

It don't matter if there are no reports or not. Look up the hatchery reports for the cow, they're always updating it. Besides, if you get the chance and you only have on or two trips a season, it's gonna be your best bet. It'll have fish in it all year, if my wife would let me make the drive I'd do it as often as my schedule would allow. Keep an eye on the river levels to see when they're letting out water, and you're golden.

Not saying to not go. But right now the cow has been tough. Its not a for sure thing by anymeans. When I can stay there for 3 days and not catch a fish and even come down 2 days later and get skunked again, its slow. I did redeem and limit but I felt like I was out dating again gettin rejected. You might get lucky, but really think realistic. There is a lot of people that go years without catchin steelhead. They are not just handed out like the salmon. Gotta put your time in to get the fish.

Pooh, where are they handing out the salmon? Apparently I've been standing the wrong line! #-o

Any river that has salmon in them. Specially when pinks and chum in.

Cowlitz or the Bogachiel. Both are kicking out fish. I dont listen to the reports in the media. They are based off the adds for gear on the following page.
