Northwest Fishing Reports

I am new to the site and a excited fisherman that usually hits the puyallup annually. i have read other forums about the local rivers in washington but no forum seems to be as put together as this. so if anyone has updates or tips or places they would like to share with me an others i would be very greatful.

hit the puyallup early this morning parked near the trail off milwaulkee in downtown. it seems fishing is slow an most everyones reports reflect that. i spent 2 hours with no bites. river seems high enough but doesnt seem like there running.

I hit that same spot this evening, when I showed up there was a guy who had just landed a nice king, maybe 15lbs, just on orange beads no yarn, and a 5' leader. The fish are makin there way in, I think this weekend should be good, not great yet. but this river should be produceing soon, stay with it and you will get your first of the season

I was there on the opener and didn't see a roll. I've yet to catch a king, I'm usually bass fishing until October and then I switch to the rivers. I'm hoping to get my first from the Puke this year.

I was also hoping for any tips on the Puke. Corky size and color. Yarn color? Smelly jelly scent? All my river gear surrounds steelhead fishing, I feel it won't be able to handle a big bad king, any thoughts of main line and leader size, I'm typically using 10lb main/ 10lb leader for steelies.

Any tips would be appreciated.

I go 20/15 or 20/20 even. I use smaller corkies #14 and yarn when its clear and larger corkies #12 and 10 when its dirty. Sometimes Ill take my corkies off and try just yarn. Others Ill toss corkies no yarn. Basically If they are not biting something try something else. Even if your not seeing them roll they can be there. Alot of times they dont jump till you piss em off with a hook in the side.

When I added salmon egg scent to my yarn last year, it help me catch 2 silvers inside the mouth.

becomes an issue. WSP wrote tons of tickets to folks parked on River Road,not sure what the price is but wanted to mention it.
I'll be giving the puy/salmon a serious try this year. I looked like the guy that has no clue as to what he is doing out there:-$

Fishing is still a bit slow, but without the pinks here it wont' be dynamite like last year anyways. It was late august/early sept that we really started killing them last year and the kings were mixed in with the pinks. we used the same rig. 4-5ft leader with corkies/yarn. everyone used whatever type rod they happened to ahve available. everything but deep sea that is. trout, steal, whatever you have that you like.

around 15lbtest worked fine for me.15-20. watch your rod strength.. dont' want to snag a weight on a rock and break your rod because the line is so strong it doesn't stretch or snap (IMO)........

what was the law breakage on river road? I parked there a lot last year and didn't see problems.

Because of football practice I havent been able to do any fishing for a while. I made it my goal to hit the puyallup before school starts. These are great tips, keep em' coming!
