or if u can build a rod and put a fighting butt to counter ballance the rod to make it lighter and more sensative

I have a Bass Pro Shop's "Cat Buster" with matching spinning reel. Reel is spooled with 15# and rod is 8' medium heavy. Plenty strong enough for steelhead or salmon.
