Skagit River Sockeye - any luck?
I plan to try plunking for Sockeye on the Skagit very soon. Has anyone had any luck yet?

Slow but there are a few around.
200 to the lake so far. Fishing should pick up over the course of the next few weeks.

More and more fish will come in every day, you just have to be out there when they do. It will get good at the end of the week and on fire the last week its open

Seems like theyre doing it different than past years. So far almost all the fish they collected went to Baker lake where as past years they waited until they got enough eggs before transfering to the lake.

I will reply to my own post - went to Skagit yesterday. about noon I eventually got to the bar by the trestle / 99 bridge talked to one guy who had been there since 5 am he saw one caught. i left and went looking for live sandshrimp. i was directed to Holiday Sports got shrimp and advice. Went to the bar across from the highway in Mt Vernon. plunked for 4 hours. saw no fish caught. Talked to the state fish guy. he said one fish was caught in the morning and that was it. I left and went to the mexican place attached to the Shell station. had the biggest Carne Asada plate ever. I'm going back there!
so I now have some spots figured out and where to buy shrimp and gear and a good lunch/dinner. and have now plunked once so I am ready to get at it next time without cluelessly driving around Mt Vernon and Burlington swearing to myself like like I have turrets syndrome....
plunking and not catching anything for 4 hours is a little boring...

I fished from 0500 to 1800 or so yesterday. Saw a handful caught in the morning and one in the afternoon. One guy got lucky and caught two next to me. Had a nibble her and there and hooked into something small then it spit the hook.never even saw the fish.

It was a lot better then I expected the weekend to go. There is plenty of fish in there already. Went 2/3 yesterday and 2/4 today. put in the time and keep at it

Even in this low water the fish are still running up close to shore

Holy crap it's busy as heck down there. 30 guys at both I-5 bars this morning.
Bite was slow, but there was a short one from 5-630am before. Left and went to work at 7:30.

Going to attempt a trip up Thursday, does anyone recomend close to I-5 or farther up stream by the soccer fields? Do spinners work well for the Sockeye? Add shrimp? Is it color or scent they hit on?
Thanks, never been up there before and very little rvier/salmon fishing. Did see several posts about close to shore.
