Cowlitz river

Post by ssgh3812 » Wed Dec 03, 2014 8:07 pm

I am planning to spend a day out fishing this weekend. Might be heading to either barrier dam or blue creek. I have not heard much about it recently, and would like to know how people are doing out there. Does winter steelhead arrive yet? Any information or advice will be much appreciated.

Just go out there and fish bro. Don't rely on reports. Internet reports can't be trusted, and even if someone does give an honest report, no two days are the same. Might be on fire one day, and a ghost town the next. You just gotta hit the water and see what happens.

Some steelhead around, lots of boots to keep you busy. At 14000 right now, so it's pretty high, but they should drop it down for the weekend. google TPU fish report where they post the fish numbers every Monday. It's always a good bet that there will be fish on the Cowlitz though, the dam is your best bet. It's winding down, so the crowds will thin as steelheading gets under way up here on our home rivers.

Thank you for your advices. I tried the Barrier dam today. It wasn't quite dead, but very slow. I saw only 4 fishes landed, and they were all coho. Not any steelhead yet. Eggs under bobber seems to work best. Not sure how people doing at Blue Creek. Gotta give it a try next week.

The dam is good for summer run steel...winters tend to hang out down by BC.

this has been my observation. used to hit barrier in the evenings about july and have very few or nobody else there. tossing spoons for summer runs was pretty productive. [thumbsup]
