Where to go fly-fishing near Bellevue?

I've done some fly-fishing on the lakes, and had some success. But I just don't seem to find a river or creek to try my hands on around Bellevue. Could somebody please recommend a few places that are within 1-hour drive from Bellevue? Trout or any small species are fine, I'm not ready for big games like salmon or steelhead (this is the not the season anyway.) I'd appreciate it a lot if you can be as specific as possible. Thanks in advance!

Ha, you're right, swedefish4life1. The season is right around the corner, but I've got only a 6wt rod, guess I'd better stay out of those big guys (steelhead are big, right?) for the moment until I've learned how to handle big ones with a light rod. The thing I hate most is losing a fish with a hook in its mouth, I'd rather keep it than losing it that way. Thank you for sharing the information!

creeks and rivers within an hour for trout fishing from Bellevue. I guess the Cedar would be within an hour. And highly rated. It's a selective fishery and I'm not sure about access points. You'll need to do some research with google maps and kind of explore. If you do, share your results with us.

I've got in the back of my mind a desire to float the Cedar with my 2 person pontoon, but I have no idea the put in/take out spots. Maybe this fall...

Mikie check the regs!!!#-o I belive the Cedar is pressed by bankers only?

I would hate to SEE you front page news!!!:-$

I might be wrong but I think she is restricted but bankers and selective gear rules and there are monster trousters in her!

The regs only said closed from Landsburg Bridge upstream to Cedar Falls, seletive gear rules, and release trout. Thanks, Mike. I checked the map, there are a lot of green areas along the river, but the map is not always right, still need to check out myself. (I found only 2 reports for that river from last year. Maybe there are just too much fish and people just don't even bother to report. :-)

If anyone is serious about fishing the Cedar there are some great places from which to fish from shore and I can give you a few spots to try, PM me. If you are going to attempt to float the river, be aware that it is closed to floating devices (posted on a line across the river a 1/4 mile from the logjam) a bit downstream of 152nd AVE due to logjams. You can get back on the river at the very West end of the Cedar River Regional Park and take out at Carco Theater, Renton Stadium or at the mouth. Your not going to be fishing from any floating device during the Summer, the water is too low and the river will be too small. Your toon will just be used to get you to places that you couldn't walk into. It's mostly an early morning fishery, crack of dawn until the sun hits the water. The exceptions are the bridge areas which provide shade during the day. If you bring a net, be sure it is knotless!

OK, so to actually fish I would need to get out of the toon, then? Obviously I'd be checking the regs before venturing off. I don't really have time to do this anyway, just thinking it might be fun to do "someday".

Anyway, I remember when the river was opened a few years ago some very good reports of nice fishing, so this sounds like the spot to explore for a one hour distance drive from Bellevue!

Rattlesnake lake is always a fav fly lake. In the evening any sub-surface olive works great. Also, bankline just right of the boat launch is popular with choronimid'rs. Not a river or creek, but good fly water.

Rattlesnake would be a good shoreline fishing option - plenty of back cast room and access to deep water. Good call.

Yeah, Rattlesnake lake, almost forgot it. Last time I was there, while I was just preparing to launch the raft, some guy who wears like an officer, maybe a game warden, told me I'd better put the raft back because it's required to wear a vest on this lake. Without any hesitation, I started deflating the raft. :-)

good call in any case - I'm sure you have loved ones that don't want to read about you in the paper.

If fishing from any floating device, you are required to have personal flotation. Whether you wear it or not is up to you. I have inflatable vests purchased at West Marine for 75$ comfortable and legal.

i've had some luck up in the middle fork area and not much on the sky. for lakes i prefer some of the hike in's around the granite falls area. a tube is a must have for the hike-in's - heavily treed shorelines make for alot of frustration with a fly rod..

You can fly fish the green river for smallish rainbow trout. they are very healthy and beautiful fish (if small). I have been catching them at Kanaskat Palmer in Enumclaw, but you work the parks along the green valley road as well (there are 3 or 4 parks within a few miles of Flaming Geyser.
