i think vasoline might do somthing to deter the fish but it might help, it might also just wash off after a while to so you would have to re-apply just as much as you would have to de-ice. my suggestion would be to just deal with it, anyway u put it u will always have to apply or de-ice or whatever. unless a company comes out with a miracle sure then i have no clue.

Fire off an e-mail to one of the editors/writers of one of the major fly fishing magazines. They may have some proven techniques to deal with it. Most of those guys reply in a timely manner. They love hearing from their readers.

I just googled "keeping ice off of rod guides" and got several hits with many good ideas. Try it

Lots of folks swear by ChapStick lip balm. I've tried it to keep the guides free from ice on my fly rods and it helps a bunch. But, after a while you still have to clean up. Nothing I've heard of works perfectly. So, ChapStick is still the best in my vest.

I've had sucess using a little silicon oil on each guide, Remington made a fine tipped oil applicator for gun use call "Rem Oil". One word of advise is to read the label before using "Rem Oil" they make several different type, some are oil or graphite based and will just make a mess. It repells water and works for a hour or so before having to reapply.
