Crappie Flies

Post by Lotech Joe » Mon Oct 17, 2011 7:08 pm

Anybody have any recipes for good Crappie flies? I'd like to target some Crappies next Spring and I'm building flies with colorful chenille and leggy bodies, with bead heads. Am I thinking right here or should I go in a different direction. I'm new to the world of Crappies, but I know where to find a few.

http://www.crappie.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and http://www.chapmancreek.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; can give you some idea's. Type in crappie flies and you will get some more crappie patterns.

Normally I would say yellow, black, and whites with soft hackles and bead heads, but I caught 60 crappie on Liberty Lake a while back on a size 12, brass beaded, olive bugger. I think it looked like a damsel fly larva to them possibly.
My biggest crappie, 15+ inches, I caught on a yellow tailed, black chenille body and a white soft hackle. About size 8 hook.
Good luck.

always had good luck with a small green carrey special but I wasnt necessarily targetting crappie. While living in Metaline I was targetting anything that would bite along the bank of the pend oreille and would get quite a few blue gill with a size 8 green carrey
