Northwest Fishing Reports

New to fishing in Washington, and bass fishing. I caught my first smallie, a little 2 pounder yesterday at mercer island. I knew everyone said they were an intense fish to reel in, but the first hand experience was awesome.

Great job! Am hoping to get on my first smallie this weekend.

I fell in love with SMB 2 years ago. I just can't quit them.

Thanks everyone!!! Hopefully this first one wasn't luck. I want to be able to get my hooks into one whenever I go out, though it may be wishful thinking considering the limited amount of experience I have.

Just make notes of what you did, and where the fish was, and the day, time of day, weather, ect. Read it next time you go out, and save the info for next year also.

Definitely not luck. Congrats on your first one. I still remember catching my first one after hearing and the so called, "smallies fight better," lines. It was true and I was blown away. In addition, I was lucky to catch my first 3 back to back to back.

dude this is my first year ever chasing bass, and most of what i have caught have been dinks. Even my biggest are only about 1.5-2lb fish, but they are a BLAST! and for so many different reasons.. yes they fight great, but the challenge of finding them, and getting them to strike.. the new lures to learn and collect, the new water I fish, the new ways that i fish water i've fished for years... fun fun fun.

The smallies and largies I caught this morning didn't fight all that strongly. The water temp is too high, 82 degrees surface temp. When it gets back down into the mid 70s and lower, they'll be twice as strong

Dustin07, I've only been catching dinks as well, but I can just imagine the thrill of getting a hog for the first time. If Amx is correct and they do fight harder when the water temp permits then the fishins gunna be good!!!

Just wait until after it rains Wed. nite/Thursday/Fri. I'm gonna go again sometime between Wed. evening and Fri. morning. I hope it does rain quite a lot.

I'll tell you, I've NEVER felt the body of a bass that was so hot as I did today. Not even the bass I've caught in Potholes, Moses, Banks, or Roosevelt during the middle and late summer.

The biggest fish I caught yesterday was in the current of the inlet creek. 16 1/2" 2lb Largemouth that fought good and tried to get down into the submergent weeds. Had the water been even 5 degrees cooler he probably could have gotten down there and maybe gotten off, the chance we always take when the fish get into thick weeds. On a small crankbait on a cast that had to be 'on the spot'.

Caught a 14-7/8" smallie off moses this weekend. Sucker fought real good! You could tell when a big smallie hit the lure versus one of the smaller ones. They SLAM it. Would get it near the boat and it would bolt straight down stripping line. Great stuff. The best one was a 14" that as soon as he hit he had me reeling like a madman. He shot straight up into the air! Can't wait to get back out!

the biggest difference I can see right is away is that the dinks still fight great, they run the line this way and that way, but when you get a big one on and the rod bends, you know you're in for some fun ;)

Sounds like some fun fishin taking place with you guys. Cant wait to hook my first big one!!!

Yep. Fishing curlew we caught LM every other cast but compared to the smallie dinks they just don't fight!

I also hooked into a LM bass on moses that was the same size as my dt-4, not kidding. Dno what he was thinking...
