Northwest Fishing Reports

So I am going to hit up island lake in Kitsap County tomorrow and try bass fishing for my first time. I was hoping for some pointers, seing how this will be my first time fishing for bass. Is it still best to fish early morning or late evening for bass? Also anyone fish this lake with any luck? <------- going to read reports after I post this. Getting ready to go buy some lures and what not for tomorrow as well. So if anyone has a quick sugestion, please throw it out there.

Hi Scott, I'm not familiar with island lake so it's a little tough to give direction, however I'd definitely recommend throwing some topwater first thing in the morning. Poppers like a chug bug, or Pop R will all work around any cover or even open water flats. With the hot weather we've been having, I'd expect the fish to be active real early before that some gets up too high, and then again in the evening. If you are fishing shallow cover stick to white or chartruese white spinnerbaits in either 1/4 or 3/8 oz, and I would always have somekind of jerkbait tied on, like a lucky craft pointer 78. Once that sun gets real high then its time to move in tight to cover or find the deepest cover you can and use dropshots, or carolina rigs and splitshots. For the dropshot, I like the sniper snub in dark brown or green pumpin copper, for the c-r and splitshots it's hard to be a 4" green pumpkin lizard. I know that's some pretty generic advice but hopefully it will help a little. Good luck to you!

Yes my name is Jay and I am a Bassaholic and it seems everyone here is either my sponsor or the enabler of my addiction ... LOL. I haven't fished at that lake either but Dave's direction is right on. Baby brush hog in Rootbeer with 1/8 oz bullet weight pegged seems to be a good goto for me along with a weightless Yamamoto Kreature. Every one keeps telling to have a jig tied on and I am starting to use it more and more. The beginning of last August was when I begin my bass fishing adventure. It has been a life altering experience. What was that ... the weather is what tomorrow? Moon phase? there goes my ADD sorry about that ... yes it may just take up a small portion of your time.

Well turns out my fishing buddy that I was going with isn't going to be able to pick up my small boat until Sunday. So looks like Sunday and we will be hitting up Kitsap Lakes though.

Got so jigs, floating frog, a couple diffrent spinners and a float and a sinking minow.

Will be going back to buy some more tomorrow:cheers:

I got a spot that is a lot better for the bass bite if you can keep it to youself. Let me know.

You guys know I haven't caught a lot of bass yet, but the bass I have caught this year were basically doing the types of rigs Dave mentioned, during the timeframes he said. Just took me a while to start to figure out when to use what, where to use it, how to use it.... and the google is your friend. I had to google every one of those terms too in the beginning!
