When I take people who don't fish all the time, I set them up with a nightcrawler on a drop shot. They end up catching perch and good size smallies.

To tell the truth, That is the only bait I use during spawn. I use it with no weight and run light line and just flip it into the shallows and let it sink. they cannot resist it!

I can't think of a freshwater fish that doesn't like nightcrawlers.
A nice bass is too valuable a resource to enjoy catching only once.

Nightcrawlers imo are the best bait to use to catch bass! I dont use them bec. they are more likely to swallow the hook, and you are more likely to hurt the fish.

Actually that is the same scenario that got me into bass fishing. I took my son, about 8 y/o out on lake WA. one night.
Loaded him up with crawler under a bobber. He was throwing it right up against a dock. He caught 3 or 4 smallies. One of them about 2 lbs, it was the biggest bass either of us caught for a couple years. I discovered how aggressive and fun to catch these fish could be..... and then I went to the dark side.... bass, that is.:batman:

My pb lmb was caught on a nightcrawler, weightless. I'll never forget that fish, I couldn't believe how huge it's mouth was, and that I was able to lip hook her

amazing, so fish like to eat the real version of the fake stuff that I throw at them? :-#

I went out with my father in law who grew up fishing North Dakota/Missouri River back in the 50's one day. I took all my new fancy stuff and I had this feeling he'd throw nothing but night crawlers and outfish me. he did. #-o
