Northwest Fishing Reports

So I live a couple blocks from Lake Union. Does anyone know if this lake can be fished from a float tube? Is it safe? Where would you put into the lake? What areas can be fished? It never occured to me to tube it for some reason. It just seems too busy and more of a "boat" lake. Thanks for the help.

I have spent alot of time on Lk Union in power boats. It is probably the lake I would feel the LEAST comfortable in a float tube on. While there is a no wake restriction or 5 knots or something for 90% of the lake.... there is TON of boat traffic mostly of high speed power boats, larger yahts, and drunken frat boys. I am even totaly comfortable with the idea of picking a 5 house/dock radius on Lk WA. and float tubing close to the docks for bass....... but I just couldn't feel right about recommending Union.

Don't know about Union other than comments like Quadfather says..might not be the best idea. I've fished Tapps in the middle of summer on the weekend and that wasn't the brightest thing I've done, but I don't give too much thought to the dangers, tho I don't recommend that for others. I'd think you could at certain times maybe? I just don't know

The main about lake Union is the sheer NUMBER of boats on the water. It is everbodys pathway between the salt and Lk. WA. I found it very stressful navigating on a summer sunny day in a ski boat. Did I mention the float planes, LOL.

I wouldnt do it man - way too many boats, and way too many boaters not watching where they're going at that. And those big yachts throw big wakes whether they are going the right speed or not. If a barge comes through, oh man...

OK. I'll scratch that off my list.

I would try maybe checking out the arboretum area of lake washington - the waters there are much calmer and protected from all the powerboats out in the main lake by the walkways and footbridges (all the boat traffic there will be kayaks and canoes). And I meant "man" in my last post in a general sense ;).

I've wanted to fish that area for some time. I know there's quiet spots like that. I just don't know the areas on the lake

I would float that in a second...stick to the marinas, and the houseboats. Don't try and paddle across any main channels...there are a ton of fish in there...and most people on the lake don't know it. I caught a 2lb smallie on my third cast last fourth of july off my buddy's liveaboard. Four people in the marina were shocked that "there were fish in the lake" I would feel OK floating the lake...but keep in mind there are boats. You will be OK on the edges of the water. Good luck, and avoid the 4th or any big holiday weekends!
