Riffe Lake

Post by f1sh1nf00l » Sun Jun 07, 2009 7:49 pm

Was wondering if anyone has hit Riffe for bass this year? I have a weekend coming up at Riffe with a bunch of friends, alot of whom dont get to fish much, and would like to get into their first bass. I've never fished Riffe for bass, but I hear there's some pretty good bass fishing there. I was looking at the sattelite map, and I'm thinking that the uppper part of the lake where the Cowlitz comes in and there's alot of nice points might be the best area? Just a guess:-k Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm gonna go back through all the reports to see if I can find some clues. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hitting the upper end is def a good plan. I haven't been there yet this yr but soon. There is usually a few tourneys there every yr just need to wet a line.

I hear the best sm in riffe is near the cosmos boat launch and near swafford cove, smallies over 5lbs are often caught there.

Thnx for the info, it seems that all the research and input I have gotten confirms my hypothesis. Unfortunately we will be camping at Mossyrock park, so it will be a bit of a motor, or a road trip up to the other end. But well worth it for some good smallie fishin'.

You guys should come out the weekend of 19th-22nd, there's gonna be a bunch of us out there camping at Mossyrock park campground and hittin Riffe for smallies during the day, and Swafford for some cats at night. I think we have at least three boats going so far, and we were talking about having a mini tourney if we can get enough people interested. Just for bragging rights of course, but it should be a blast(as long as the weather cooperates).

Good luck with the cats, the last few times I did that didnt even get 1 bite not even a bullhead! there was some people I wont say what kind but they were using 3 hooks on a line and keeping every single fish they caught even 3 inchers and they fished 24 hours! I took my kid there to catch bg and couldnt even get a bite, them people had the whole fandamley there and they kept everything! maybe it has changed this year but I doubt it. i'm gonna try it out tomorrow but gonna be in the boat and on the other side! does anyone know if there is still browns up to 8lbs in there?

The browns were huge in there years ago! I checked the fish plants and looked back like 3 years and cant find any plants of browns! I remember a guy getting a 8lb brown and an 8lb bass all the same day.....well it was night and he was using 8in planter trout as bait trolling the shallows, I'm gonna try my sb tomorrow and see what happens!

All the SMB I've caught were on the same baits as the LMB I've caught,..I'm not much of a soft-platics kinda Basser,..I have some but not my go-2 baits,..the Bronzies hit the Cranks-SB'S-BuzzBaits-Chatters-Spinners-Jigs I throw just like the Greenies do,..so I really don't have specifically SMB baits! Also Sat early AM gonna do 2 lakes up North with BassFanatic,..all Top-Water,..8" SB'S-Frogs-BuzzBaits!

I use alot of plastics, the last time I drove by riffe(last thurs) the water was as high as I've ever seen so i'm gonna try the swafford cove after I hit swafford, when the water is high like that the cove on riffe is real good. i'm gonna go for the smallies then, I have caught them there before by mistake with NC. hopefully I'll get a hog greenback and a hog smallie tomorrow! well at least I can dream.

It has been about 4 years since I've fished Swafford, so I'm not really sure what to expect. I always caught alot of cats at night, and I caught my pb lmb in Swafford. I guess I'll find out.

well I fished it yesterday, right off the bat I seen 3 fish all over 2-3lbs seen one that swiped at my swimbait that was closer to 5lbs, missed 2 other that were in thye 2-3lb range they were more into swipping at my bait instead of bitting it, then the wind picked up and blew me all over the place and didnt see or hit another fish. there was a few other boats out there, someone left 2 sturgeon by the boat launch, I dont who is throwing those fish in there but I wish they would stop it. good luck fishing there.
