has anybody seen any large mouth on bed yet ive seen them shallow but not on beds smallies are on beds whats going on ???#-o and maybe some tips on what you guys do to fish bed lures colors ect. thanks

Smallies prefer colder waters and can spawn in them causing them to bed before largemouth. And i have seen largemouth cruising the shallows too. For smallmouth try using a jerk bait or drop shot in whites or bright colors u can see.

LMB will spawn when the water temp hit 62* and it dont matter if its spring or fall weather. I have seen LMB on beds in the shallow lakes this year. They went on bed about 2 weeks ago give or take a few days. But when they go on bed dont fish for the one you see on bed. Instead ease off the bed at least 20' cast to the bed and work your bait all the way to your boat. Because just off the bed the female bass waits untill the water temps are right befor she lays her eggs. She will bite.Did I say she will bite. Yes she will hit! she will not stop eating thats why females are bigger than the male bass. What I do is find the beds, ease up on the fish on bed. Look to see where the male is looking he will be looking in the areas the the female bass is in wait. Then I will fish slow and hard for the females. I have caught numbers of bass off there beds and they are always male fish. The female bass will only be on the bed just long enough too lay her eggs and then she heads back to cover or deeper waters. The male bass stays on bed and becomes a watch dog. Hope this helps some.

Use white jigs with a craw tail if the water is dark,..helps to see the bass lift and move it or even take it,..listen 2 Trent,..I've seen LMB on beds this season 2,..just stay far enough away,..when you pull up on the bed you'll spook them,..ease off and fan cast all around including the bed,..especially if you see the bass holding on the bed,..this way you might catch Big Momma!

yesterday i was dropshotting a berley hollow bellie split tail its so deadly i just cast and let it sit with a few twiches

i have just gotten lucky and found the fish on beds and aggressive as heck. Its amazing since my biggest fish out of the lake last year was a pound and a half

Well mike and aaron deserve some credit for having such knowledgble members on this site that can spread their wealth of knowledge

But back to the topic. This year for bed fish all my luck has came off of a sand colored money shot bait from WCCT and also WCCT white jerkbait along with a White tube bait and a chartruse spinnerbait. Really anything light enough for u to be able to see the bass move an inch. As long as you throw on the bed enough it will sooner or later get pissed enough to eat it.

i usually do good with yum craw papi's or baby brush hogs, and usually shakey head does the trick. as far a colors go watermelon red for me. but the shakey head i use a roboworm the magarita mutalator color is the best by roboworm.

I don't know anything about the small lakes but I have fished a tournament or pre-fished Washington, Moses, Banks, Potholes and Long (Spokane) all in the last few weeks. They are not on beds yet. I have seen beds and talked to other fishermen who have seen abandoned beds but not fish on beds. I think a few fish moved up and got started during that brief warm spell we had but moved back out because things got so unstable. I know that the fish on Long are not on beds because I was filling my boat with BIG pre-spawn females all day Saturday. They were on the first or second break adjascent to where they will eventually spawn, soon. You could catch all the 2 1/2 -3 pound males you could count if you fished shallow. Baits are irrelevant when it comes to spawners. It's all about patience and persistance. I have caught bedded fish on lots of different baits and if you polled 100 guys on there go-to bed baits you would likely get 75 different opinions. The key is your own personal confidence in a particular bait and the mood of the fish. The males are easy to catch and make up most of the fish caught off of beds. They don't eat the bait they pick it up and move it. If you go looking for beds in a place that you are confident they will be turn your motor down as low as you can without stopping the boat. Try to avoid starting and stopping your motor, constant is better. You know how a deer will stand and look at you until you sloww the truck down....same deal. Turn off your electronics.They make too much noise and they are useless for this application anyway. I like to use a dropshot but not that sissy rod you use to put a limit of losing fish in the boat. Use a heavy stick with heavy line and just enough weight you can flip it. I like this because if a fish does spook you can wait until it comes back and your bait is already in the bed waiting. There are a million other things you can do in addition to the stuff I just gave you.

All the info you got on here is great I agree with everyone on throwing something on a bed that they can see as well as what you can see. I just started really looking and fishing the beds the right way this year, It hasn't paid off yet but it will!!

i looked at the post and i dont believe anyone covered it? but what exactly does a bass bed look like and how exactly might i know when i come upon one

u can tell as it will usually be a cleared out circle of gravel usually brighter than the surrounding area
