Idecided to hook up the boat yesterday and take my son bass fishing at angle lake where i met not one but two wonderful citizens of washington state . launched my boat with my son on board and decided to hit the west end of the lake in search of lmb. headed for a laydown of trees to flip and pitch. We where minding are own biz when i heard a bunch of muffled yelling. i didnt pay much attention to it since I WAS MINDING MY OWN BIZ AND FISHING. The next thing i know large trout rig with a HUGE sinker 2 oz . lands right behind my boat. i turn around and here is this guy jumpin up and down yelling and screaming and cussing on a floating dock. i would say he was at least 200 yards away . so i turned my attention to this person thinking what could be making this guy angry. now its only 10:30 am in the morning. AS i get closer to him i notice a almost empty 40 oz botttle of beer. By this time he casted again as hard as he could and the sinker hit the water right in front of my boat . So i yelled whats the deal? He told me that people dont take to kindly to people fishing peoples piers and that some people have gotten there butts kicked doin it. I decided ignore him and keep fishing. i setting an example for my son and i dont engauge him and maybe he will shut up. we are like 200 yards away from him. I think that is plenty room . tourneys are 100 yds! so anyway he doesnt shut up and he get even more upset and runs from one end of pier and casts as hard as he can and the sinker almost hits the boat . he says next time ill hit ya and yelled get f outta here. Now ive been fishing all my life and i know theres courtesy among fishermen and i feel i gave him a wide wide berth. By this time i am pissed but i have my son with me and i told him have a nice day and he told me to f myself. Why do people act like this my son didnt want to fish anymore so i packed it up. I was backin the trailer down and notice a guy and his son pulling up in inflatable boat . i told him go ahead get your gear out an ill wait so afterwards i began to back down and as soon as my wheels hit the water i met wonderful person number two . this guy pulls up right behind my trailer and starts to get his gear out . so i get out walk back and this guy is bailing his boat out with a truck reciever yes a truck receiver so i sit on the back of my trailer and watch, after about 15, 20 min he looks up at me and says are you waiting to pick up a boat ? I REPLEID NOPE I JUST CAME DOWN HERE TO SIT ON MY BOAT TRAILER AND WATCH PEOPLE LOAD UP. He replys by saying well you need to move out of the way because i am gonna be late for work. I want to get mad but i just smiled and laughed.Where do these poeple come from. I went ahead and loaded my boat and i made him wait when got loaded i shook his hand and said good bye. HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU? AM I THE ONLY ONE? SHOULD I HAVE ACTED IN A DIFFERENT WAY? MAYBE I SHOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THIS LAKE! IAM DYING TO Hear WHAT YOU THINK!

I had the tube out last summer, was drifting with the light wind and tossing frogs into pads. Caught a few nice ones and two guys in a boat with a big gas motor come RACING over to where I was, killed the power, cut the wheel, and sideways'd it right next to me. Literally RIGHT NEXT TO ME. I could smell the Old Spice on them.

One guy says "You're slaying them over here! We're gonna join you!"
Other guy says "All we have are crankbaits and wedding rings, so toss us over a few of those frogs you're using."

Sorry, guys, this is the only one I have on me.

Guy #2 then says "Hand me your tackle box and let me see what all you have that I might could use."

Say what?? You're in a $30,000 fishing boat, I'm in a float tube, and you want ME to give YOU my tackle box so you can elbow your way into MY spot and catch fish when all you have with you are the friggin trout lures you bought at Walmart the night before? Get stuffed, cowboy.

They sat there trying to throw cranks into thick pads, getting hung up on each cast. I pulled 3 more bass out right in front of them. They finally got tired of it, gunned the motor, and tore out of there, leaving me bobbing in their wake.

Oh man... these kinds of inncidents are priceless. (not saying it was funny at all ) There is something weird about people. Ya know how when people are within the confines of their car they will do/say anything to you on the road sometimes, as if they are completly self assured that you are not going to come over there and yank them out of the vehicle... The same thing seems to go for behaviour on lakes/boats. I haven't had a particularly bad inncident, but I see many times people from their own boats or docks with their chests all puffed, talking smack.
I am a pretty polite and easy going person, but it is all you can do sometimes not to want to slap somebody upside the head.:bounce: The only problem is that anybody this stupid and rude wouldn't learn from the situation.

I think you did the right thing while having your son with you so as not to set a bad example flippinfool, i must commend you on your control and actions. I don't think it's right when people think they own the water we all pay for and help maintain. His lack of control probably came from the empty bottle of liquid courage. I wouldn't sweat it, i'd go back and if theres a problem next time call the police before he hurts someone or god willing someone hurts him. Once again i commend you for you actions. Good luck and tight lines.

Flippin sounds like you had a interesting day out on the water. Glad you kept your cool for your sons sake, I might have handled it a little differently I have a short fuse when it comes to things like that. Anyway hope to see you out on the water again soon.

Another perspective:
My boss lives on clear lake pierce county and has a dock with his party barge parked there"it is a big L shaped dock".Ok so he tells me about the bass fisherman beating his boat with baits, snagging up breaking off, hooks stuck to his boat, dock and fishing line. They dont just fish the outside edge they come past the outside and turn into fish so as to parallel his boat.He does ask them to leave if he is on his property with family having get togethers. He says he does it politly as he walks to the dock so he dont yell.He gets some that fire back and some that respect his asking"as for me i just skip docks with people or family things going on"His asking is due to him having guys whip out there "u know what"to relieve themselves while his kids are present, also finds alot of garbage around his dock which he does pick up,above, around or underwater. So not all fisherman are created= but to the homeowner maybe we are ,no matter how good u are..Im sorry that guy was a complete douche but maybe he had a bad expierence with a boater once, but good job for showing ur kid the safe way outta things, knuckles come later as most boys and men know.

I don't carry,..if I'm that far away people can talk trash as much as they want and I will be curtious,..now if they are within arms reach of me and they are in a threatining position either with words or body posture I feel allot safer,..at least then I can react and do what I have 2 do,..20'-200 yds,..LOL,..I can't do anything 2 them but "smile-and-wave",..3'-5' and I can "reach-out-and-touch-them" and show then how much I care. I'm glad you kept your cool FF and like you told wifey,..I'm glad I wasn't there 2,..LOL!!!

I had a homeowner flip out on me and two other buddies at st.clair once. He was mad because my lure had snagged and pulled out one of HIS lillypads. We told him it not to worry that we will release it back to grow bigger. This guy flipped out ran down to his dock and started yelling profanities at us and said he will see us at the boat launch. My buddy was pretty upset by this point and said we will be there after were done fishing his pads.

In the end the guy was never at the boat launch which was smart on his behalf. Because the three of us in my boat are all cops. Woulda been a bad move LOL!

Of course I can't prove it, but in each and every case, it sounds like liquid courage by the other guy was the problem. A lot of people want to fish with me, but most don't when I tell them that I don't allow alcohol or smoking on my boat. The smoking I don't allow because I have seen the scent kill the bite. The drinking I don't allow, well, because of what you have seen. Drinking and fishing don't mix in my opinion.

Totally agree with the drinking Archinangler,..not a good thing when you're fishing,..or anytime on a boat for that matter,..JMHO!

Flippin,

Not the first time I have heard this on angle, happened to me last year, just trolling for whatever about 150 - 200' off the shore at the turn in the lake, and WHAM! 4 oz sinker lands in the Livingston, No hook, Just the weight and a guy on his dock yelling "Yeah that's what you get B**** for fishing my waters." I stepped on it and the guy and the dock Wigs OUT!. So I just whip my vest knife out and cut the line. Then the guy threatens to get his slingshot! Suffice to say we moved to another area of the lake.

I really wasn't paying attention to anyone on shore so the weight came as a complete surprise. Man if it had hit one of us we'd a been out cold and over the side, and drowned.

Reported it to a King County deputy in the parking lot, he told me it happens alot. Especially in the summer evenings with alcohol involved.

Some girl got hit in a canoe and went overboard a couple a years ago, and she lived and the incidents stopped for a while, but have started again in the last couple of years. She was just paddling around, not even fishing.

If it happens ever again i'll grab the line and yank and see if I can get a rod and reel out of the deal instead of just a lead weight.
