Ok I have come to realize that my salmon gear is just not going to work for Bass this summer.

I have a selection of poles, mostly having to do with my daughter and fishing,
2 H Salmon poles with 25 -50# test on them.

2 collapsible spinning rods,
1 Light action spinning,
1 LM action spinning

2 "Roddy Rods" light action, that I use at the cabin for perch with the daughter

2 mighty might 2' UL rods, that are fun as hell on lake trout.

And of course talking to a local guy in the store, none of those where good, what I needed was an ugly stik lite, or a Cherrywood rod.

To tell you the truth I liked the ultralight cherry wood rod, but I realy don't think that it is a neccity, worst case I just go and get the Roddy rods, that are pretty sensitive.

Thoughts?

Cherrywood is a decent Ultra Light in my opinion. And at $25-40, you can't go wrong. I would only get the 4.5'-5' UL cherrywood, nothing else. I would use it for small stream trout or panfish. Great little rod for those ultra light situations.....
I don't think I would get one [5.5'+] (they tend to break..:-$ ) for a bass rod, but that is just me.

As far as the others, can't say, haven't owned any. Oh, ugly stik are VERY durable, but maybe not the most sensitive. (at least that's how mine is)

good luck...

Try out a MH fast action 6.6.:thumleft: The rod is stiff for hook sets and the length is for casting. You can feel every little nib. Make, thats up to you and how much you want to spend.

There are a number of cherrywood rods that are indeed bass worthy, and the one that Trent suggested will work just fine. They are a great value. I have the 7' medium berkley cherrywood that only cost me $17 that is sufficiently sensitive to drop shot with.

No way Jose on an ugly stick lite for any bass fishing unless you're going to work crankbaits. It's just not going to feel right.

They're cheap enough that you can get your daughter one too. Shimano Convergence rods are about $39 for bass rods and Sportsmans has them in bass "lengths"

+1 for the Shimano Convergence

I own a spinning and a casting and enjoy them. For a first bass rod, the price is great. If you are in the Lacey area, Cabela's has some of the XMLTi's on sale starting at $38. Look at the Shimano lines of rods and you wil be happy with your decision.
