Northwest Fishing Reports

Good Evening Everyone,
I am going down to the Tri Cities WA to Bass fish for the first time this year and wanted to get some feedback as to what kind and colors of lures to fish on cloudy days?

I would guess with the temps the way they are going that the water temp will be low to mid 50's we will be targeting both Small and Largemouth in the sloughs of the Columbia and Snake rivers.

Eric,..I've heard that Rattl-Traps with Blue work wonders,..that was in the Summer,..maybe it's different now,..I'm not sure,..just bring Various Colors and if they are hittin the Rattl's you'll be fine,..look under the Video Section of WL and it should still be there,..!

its the perfect time to throw lipless cranks on the rivers in the slughs. chrome and blue or my fav craw colors.

I grew up in the Tri-Cities. If the water is dark due to the spring runoff, then we always had luck with the darker colors. Beetle spins with black body with chartruse pinstripe or dark blue body with white pinstripe worked well run deep and slow. Any 3" or 4" grub in those colors or a crawdad color (ruddy brown). Dragging grubs on a jighead along the deep cuts of the Yakima banks and rocks were usually successful. Rapalas are always a good choice too.
If the water is clearer, white or chartruse grubs on jigheads were always a hit and both were my go-to rigs during the summer.

The question of color is always debated, but here is the old standard I grew up on.

Dark Days, dark lures. Bright Days, bright lures.

Muddy water, White, Black, Gold, Brass. Clear water, neutral colors, silver, chrome (yes, chrome and silver are different).

Fluorescent colors work best in Muddy to stained water, on dark days or deep water.

Blue and purple light penetrates deepest in the water, Red the least.

So, what if you have a muddy water, but a bright day? What about a cloudy day but clear water? I don't know, that is why I carry every color know to man.

I always use black n blue or junebug for muddy waters in both bright and cloudy days.

Cloudy weather in clear waters usually a darker natural colors, browns or dark greens.

i agree water clarity and bottom color is what i pick my colors by... cloudy/sunny weather and wind is what i choose my lures by... if its windy and cloudy i usually start with a spinnerbait.. if its sunny i will fish shade with like a jig or worm.

:batman: I like to use Black. I couldnt tell ya what to use for smallies never fished for them but while fishing for LMB did get some SMB on 7.5 junebug worms on a sunny day at the potholes.
