hey guys im looking for a new spinning reel right now. iv got the okuma Inspira 30, been a good reel, I don't a 250 dollar reel but I do need quality im kinda new to bass fishin but I want to get more serious this year. might be a stupid question but do you normally use a stiffer rod for throwin spinner baits. all I have is a 6 foot 6 fenwick med. light action I would also like a little info on dropshotin ,like I said im new

I highly recommend the Pflueger spinning reels. I started using the Supreme models this last year and they are IMO head and shoulders above a lot of higher priced reels on the market. I sold all of my Quantum Tour Edition PT's, which were a heck of a lot more money so I could get all Pfluegers. The President model is also supposed to be pretty good and it is a little cheaper too. As far as a spinnerbait rod goes, there will probably be several opinions come up, but mine is a baitcasting rod anywhere from 6'6"-7' in length with a medium-heavy power with a fast tip. I know a lot of guys that have the shorter pistol grip rods for accuracy in tight cover, but I like a longer rod myself. I like to use fairly heavy line here too. I use 17lb flourocarbon so I get the good abrasion resistence for heavy cover. Dropshot rods vary too. I like a rod around 7', maybe a hair shorter with a medium light power and a fast tip. You can go to a little heavier rod like a medium for deep water, but for all around I feel the medium light is the way to go. The rod you have should work fine. Light line is the key here too. I use 6lb flourocarbon. Lighter line equals more bites and you are generally using a small finesse type bait so the light line will give the bait livelier action too. I like a size 2 Owner mosquito hook and will nose hook my baits. I hope this helps some. Tight lines!!

heck i still use my trion gx-7 everyone once in a while WCCT - they do make a nice reel for the $!

Elsewhere I'd look at mid-ranged daiwa and shimano reels. You'll be set as far as support/dealers and resell value will probably retain as long as you keep it well. I have been using a Shimano Sahara for pretty much all my spinning duties and it comes in at well under 100 (or used to anyway). The next-step-down sedona is a decent one to look at as well.

I'm a Shimano man, but I have to admit the Pflueger Presidents reel is probably best bang for your buck. I've got one for a steelhead rig and am pretty impressed.

hey hey Shimano man !! Dont use words like "probably" when talking bout my Pflueger ! ..lol .. I been using those reels for 10 years now and they are the best for the $ no dout .. I will say that shimano has a better drag system but thats it , still not a president ...

Ya I need to get a new spinning reel too. I put the Cabela's Tournament ZX Spinning Reel on my birthday list. Until then I’m stuck with a CIMARRON 2 Spinning Reel Combo, It is a great reel and I really enjoy it I just want a little higher quality reel.

I would try out a bait caster with a med-heavy rod. Start now and by the time the fish get in the mood your ready for some good bass fishing. Spinning reals are good but a bait caster is better for feel.

Ya I keep meaning to see if I could try out one of my dad’s bait caster and practice in the cul de sac. I will try to remember to ask him and start practicing.

check out the shimano sedona or sahara. The sedona is a pretty good reel for the money approx. 40. Nice smooth drag and good line capacity.

i have two sahara and two sedonas. bothequally good reels. i havent noticed the difference yet... except in price.
