RE:Downs Lake
I believe last year was the first year of the "early" opener on Downs. I did not fish it then, so I cannot comment about how it was that early, but..........................
In the past years, the fish were already hitting strong by the early opener on Downs, so I hope this helps you plan. Downs is very shallow, very weedy, so it warms faster then the other lakes in the area.

Too much water, so many fish, too little time.
RE:Downs Lake
Correct, last year was the first for early opener. I fished it once during that time and I thought it was great. I have been fishing the lake for about 14 years and never have I seen the lake without pads besides last year. Unfortunately my battery wasn't fully charged so it was a quick trip. If they open early this year, bring a few crappie colored spinner baits, that's all you'll need.Anglinarcher wrote:I believe last year was the first year of the "early" opener on Downs. long before the lake opens
RE:Downs Lake
well it opens it 2 weeks, so are you saying it's thawed now? it certainly might be.Mossy wrote:long before the lake opens
RE:Downs Lake
you are right. I for some reason was under the impression that it wasn't going to open early again this year. I am also coming to the realization that time flies when you get older! I would imagine that the lake is still frozen over. Best bet is to call the resort and get some info.Nik wrote:well it opens it 2 weeks, so are you saying it's thawed now? it certainly might be.Mossy wrote:long before the lake opens
