Wanna Better Your Game ?
Simply put, more heads are better than one.
First rule of the game should be joining a club. As with most sports, the better athletes are always a part of an organization. Be it a team, a club or a league.
Just a while ago we were sick and tired of catching little to no fish. Fishing in this state was so different from where we grew up. Being a transplant, there was only so much we could learn by ourselves, and only so much we could learn in a given season. So we opted to join a bass club, and see where that would lead us.
More heads, more experiences, more knowledge.
Fishing by yourself or in a small group puts you in the same rut. Day in day out, you will have the same tendencies and have little to no change. Have you ever noticed most of your fishing buddies use similar or identical fishing techniques? That can pose a major problem, especially if your game is not where you want it to be.
So we used the internet machine and looked up a few clubs in the neighborhood. After looking around, we selected a club that we thought would suit us best.
The first year was a complete roller coaster. After joining the club, we tackled their small boat league. We tried to give them a run for their money... Boy did we get a schooling. We caught but 1 fish, and from there we knew something had to change. So on that note, we took a few lessons from the club, and parleyed into more fish. It was better than we were a while ago, but its not where we wanted to stay.
We took what was taught to us and ran with it...
The club opened up new doors and sparked new friendships. They have showed us different approaches, some of which we were absolutely scared of, and never dared to try. We stepped out of our comfort zone, and actually became better anglers.
A club is not only educational, but is also alot of fun if you select one right up your alley. If you dont already know, there be women, family and childen in clubs. All clubs are different.
On that note, choose your fishing buddies / clubs wisely. As the saying goes; "Tell me who your friends are and I'll tell who you are" holds true no matter what you do. So if you are a tournament angler, join a tournament oriented club. ... well you get my drift.
I dont know a single person whom is primarily self taught, and plays at a high level. Consider a club to be your coach. To sum it all up, everyone can learn from one another in some way shape or form. Spin it so it works with your strengths and skills.

RE:Wanna Better Your Game ?
i was gonna join up with Tdot back 2 years ago when he joined that club. But im too lazy to attend meetings even if its once a month. I almost joined north end bass club this year. But changed my mind...
The best thing about clubs i would say is meeting other anglers and attending the small tourneys and fish-ins. but at the same time I'm not a very social guy, i rather fish by myself. No one to get in my way or hook me in the leg due to bad casting "hahah louie". Theres only a couple of people i would fish with. Bass guys who throw big baits to catch big bass. Most clubs around here wont have those type of bass anglers. but what what do i know, im not in a club hahaha

I DISAGREE ..There isn't any bait , technique , or style of bass fishing that you cant find in most clubs .. I would be very interested in what you think you cant find in a bass club in Washington ..:study: ..Basstradamus wrote:i was gonna join up with Tdot back 2 years ago when he joined that club. I think what he is saying is there isnt too many people in this state that throw swimbaits on a consistent basis like he does. Most people up here that hace swimbaits throw them a few times per trip, but not everyday, allday. Im not talking paddletails or anything under 8" for that matter, but big baits.

Keep in mind We are talking about "timed fishing events" ..So if there an angler around this state that can get five bites on a swimmbait in every tourney , please point him out to me i would like to shake his hand ...SONNN wrote:I think what he is saying is there isnt too many people in this state that throw swimbaits on a consistent basis like he does. There a small percentage of throphy hunters in WA. I would say TDOT's club might have the most Trophy hunters. I know at least 3 of them, and they all have the same objective as i do. Throw big to catch BIG.Bigbass Dez wrote:I DISAGREE ..There isn't any bait , technique , or style of bass fishing that you cant find in most clubs .. Most of the bass guys i've met or talked to in clubs, toss cranks, dropshots, spinner baits and worms etc...anything to catch a bass. Most of the Big bass guys i know arent in clubs, They fish on the highest levels, throwing big baits that will give a higher hook up rate on bigger bass.
I've been to a clubs local meeting and a few club seminars and its the same ole talk, dropshotting lake WA, cranking goodwin etc....Clubs have lots to offer i would agree, but not when your fishing my style and catching the quality of bass i catch.
I've even attended B.A.S.S University and honestly everything i learned there from the the pros are techniques that work all over the world to land alot of bass "small ones". A numbers game to put 5 in a boat. More a tourney mind set.
But i encourage people to join clubs if your new to bass fishing and/or want to learn alot of information on local lakes....

Would you agree with me in saying that the so -called " trophy hunters" in relation to throwing big baits can be viewed as an Hobby within Bass fishing ? A style that is so time consuming and baits that are only expected to get one maybe two bites a day to the average bass angler ? I personally feel like Washington State is not a "BIG BAIT STATE" places like Cali where they have much bigger bass much bigger waters , bigger baits play a bigger role in those places .. Look at like this , our state record bass here is probably the same size as the average size bass being caught on swimm baits down in cali .. With that being said don't look to join a local bass club here in the surrounding areas if your just looking for "one" fish of a lifetime .. Last but not least fact still remains that baits like the "jig" and "spinnerbaits" still holds the highest amount of numbers for big bass being caught on a national level ..Don't get me wrong here I'm truly not picking on you ..lol Im just one angler that will "always" object to what i like to refer to as "ONE DEMINENTIONAL FISHING" ... LOL BBD

RE:Wanna Better Your Game ?
Joining a club to learn swimbaits would be retarded, plain and simple. Thats not where myself, TDOT, BPM, or Basstradamus learn how to throw them. Thats from basically online research and getting out and doing it.
As far as WA not being a "big bait" state, i disagree, personally. I couldnt count how many people have told me Im crazy when they see the lures, but also, I havent seen so many people that, in thier whole fishing days in WA, havent got but maybe 1 over 5 pounds, or 4lbs for that matter. From swimbaits alone, I have more 4 pounders just this year than i could count on my hands if I had 4 hands, with roughly 10-12 over 5lbs. I dont know very many that have got that using other techinques. I'm not bragging at all, just stating real world stats I have seen. What do you think Tag's 11lber came off of earlier this year, a swimbait.
I dont know exact numbers for TDOT, BPM, or Basstradamus, but I can def tell you its way above normal. If you goal is to catch a state record, or even if your goal is a 6lb fish, why would dropshotting, tossin senkos, or whatever the norm is up here even cross your mind as a potential way of getting there? Yes yes I know other techniques catch big bass, but what other bait, except for maybe jigs, consistently puts hogs in the boat like swimbaits? No swimbaits are not a tourney technique, but, they are a hog technique for sure.
By the way, Im not knocking any other technique, just stating the swimbaiter side of the house
