Battleground for LMB/SMB!

Post by BassinBomber » Wed Jul 09, 2008 7:15 am

Hi members and guests! I'm headed to Battleground on the 17th-21st and I was curious if any members ever targeted Bass? The Lake report says that they are present,..I was there last year and except for a small RBT I got skunked for 3 days! I hadn't turned to the "Dark-Side" yet so all I fished for was RBT/Catfish! But this year is a whole different ballgame,..I'm excited and my Tackle box is all geared up for Bass. The Lake is very clear and there's a ton of structure,..I'll have my electronics on board my little 12' Alum,..last year I didn't have my fishfinder,..so if you guys have any hints,..hotspots,..anything at all to put me in the game! Thanks.

PM Fisherman Max...

He lives down in that area and fishes for bass, don't know if he's hit Battleground though....

OK Bomber, I have fished Battleground for largemouth bass as far back as 1979 and caught fish. On clear water lakes I like top water lures like floating Rapalas. Make long casts so the fish sees the lure before he sees you. White spinnerbaits also work well around cover in clear water lakes. I have never heard of smallmouth in that lake. Good luck!

in my personal opinion battleground lake is not the lake to fish for bass in. although they are present the lake is not very productive for bass to put it lightly. if you fish battle ground fish for trout or catfish becase they are way more present and are easier to catch.

to be completely honest i am sure a good angler can catch bass in battleground but in my opinion lacamas or round lake is the best bet for a bass in clark county.

Thanks Max,..I was told to PM you by Sam,..but I totally forgot till I seen your reply,..I fished Battleground last year and it sucked,..I'm determined to target Bass so we'll see,..it seems the conditions in that body of water are perfect for Bass,..RBT are so very humdrum for me and I'd much rather work my bait than sit there and watch my pole and wait for a strike,..I'd rather fish with a bobber than fish a lake for RBT either trolling or going deep,..about the only time I like to catch RBT is when I hit my Secret Lake,..the RBT are huge in there and fun to catch cause I know just how and where to fish for them,..other than that I'm strictly a BassMan! Thanks so much for the input though,..I was told you were the one to ask!!!!!!

i dont know the exact distance but in terms of driving from battleground to lacamas/round lake (they are connected so basically they are the same lake) it takes maybe 20 minutes on a good day and the structure and fishable areas on lacamas and round greatly outnumber battleground but the water is way more cloudy on the lacamas and round lakes. i would fish with plastic worms or senko's but a floating rapala will produce way better but the fish will be smaller in stature.

i hope this helps.

Well,..we hit battleground for 3 days and except for about 12 dinks we couldnt pull any LMB over 10",..the lake is really clear and warm,..at 50' deep with alot of fallen trees for stucture along the shoreline,..we tried Drop-Shotting Senkos,..T-Rig,..C-Rig,..Frogs,..Spinners,..you name it,..all the dinks hit on Jointed-Raps in about 6' of water,..after awhile each day of tossin at the LMB we would fish for Bows wich right now are plentiful in the lake,..caught easy limits daily with the average Bow @ 12",..LOL at least we didn't get skunked and had some nice RBT for snacks! Also seen "Alfredosauce" fishing the dock on the 2nd day and got to talk with him,..nice guy,..what was nice is that when we decided to fish for Bows all we did is toss our Jointed-Raps and troll the lake and next thing you know,..fish-on,..I was also a bit dissapointed because we couldn't night fish at all,..Park Ranger said the lake was "closed" at dusk,..it's a shame because we might have caught bigger LMB at night plus there was always Catfish to target,..either way we all had a Blast @ Battleground!
