Northwest Fishing Reports

Hello All,

For the last couple of weeks I have been snooping around this site. A little background on me is I grew up in the South and have done majority of my Bass fishing in Virginia, North Carolina, and of course Florida. I mostly do shore fishing, but recently picked up a cheapy fiberglass boat. I love Bass fishing and after moving out here in '02 to go to PLU I have been having a really tough time as I had only fishing Spanaway Lake. I am not the most intelligent fisher. I have always fished off of what I see other people use and mimic that and have had decent success with it. I have gained a great level of insite and new methods from lurking on this site and hope to become a more effective bass fisherman and enthusiast thru this site.

Anyways I now fish Long Lake out in Kitsap county and plan on hitting a few isolated lakes that I have found on Ft.Lewis. The first lake on Ft.Lewis has no name and is on google maps but is only accessed by a private road which is unlocked only part of the time, but I almost landed a nice 3lber there from the shore. It is filled along the banks with cattails and lily pads. I plan on working a weedless plastic frog across the pads and probably a carolina rigged worm because the water is sooo cold still. Any other suggestions?

I go to Long Lake almost everyday and fish off the pier on the public side of the lake. Yesterday a guy landed a 4.5lber on a sinko. Just slow retreiving thru the pads down a trail. I keep my little boat in SPanaway so shore fishing is the only opportunity/method I can use :(

ALso my tackle box is desolate as my ex girlfriend took my other poles and tackle box and never gave it back.... So I am slowly restocking it as well and would love suggestions. As of now I have a plastic weedless frog, black and blue jig (looking for trailers at the moment for them too), white spinner, chartruese spinner, 2 rooster tails, poppers, 2 different rapala cranks, one deep running crank, and worms, senkos...

First welcome aboard!!! I too am shourebound myself.

After my right ankle heals up and you're in the Federal Way area, let me know. There are a number of us on the other side of the bridge and although we haven't all fished together, would probably would all like to.

Steel, Dolloff, Five Mile, Geneva, and Kilarney are known to have decent sized bass just to mention the South King County lakes.

This is a great place to teach and learn the art of bass angling. I'm not familiar with Kitsap lakes(as of yet)but know a few in Mason and Pierce Counties.

Keep on fishing those pads. Try using jig-n-pigs and texas rigged worms and throw it in the middle of the crap.

Try using crankbaits and spinnerbaits during these coldfront days.

Thanks for all of the advice. The walmart here doesn't carry pigs..go figure.. I'm at the lake right now and its windy. I got one perch. Its tough to be precise battling the wind.

I've been fishing Long Lake a lot (you'll see several posts from me for the past few weeks) since it's about the closest lake I can put my Tracker on and it costs too stinking much to drive anywhere else, especially towing a boat (though I'd love to get down to Thurston Co and try a few lakes down there). Been doing pretty well on the south end with a weightless black Zoom trick worm (you can get them at Sportsman's Warehouse in Silverdale) casting around docks and laydowns with lily pads nearby. Most of the time they'll hit it on the initial drop before it even hits the bottom. If not, I hop it one or two times then reel in and cast again. Also, caught a couple on a T-rigged Sweet Beaver (I order them from Tackle Warehouse online) in green goby, pitching and flipping in the thick parts of the lily pads, especially around the slalom course on the south end. I also take my kayak out pretty often and hit the smaller lakes in Kitsap, Mason, and Jefferson Counties. PM me if you have questions about any other lakes or topics. Hope that helps.

Thanks. It wasn't my main tackle box. It had various spinners, rooster tails, jigs, power worms, and a few cranks. My main one is still in VA at my parts house. Can't wait to blow the dust off of that stuff when I go home to visit.

Doing a little reading on the web and came across swimbaits. I was wondering what type of success if any people have had with these. I think on the 1st I am going to do a overhaul on all my tackle. I have cheapo rod/reel combo at the moment and a tiny tackle box that will all be replaced eventually. If the weather ever gets warmer and I get on some bass I am sure that will expeditite my shopping . THanks again

It was a little ways back

Ordering a few right now Hopefully will be all set when the summer arrives in late September

check sportsmans warehouse.. they get great deals on spinner baits most of the time.

Walmart is another good place for single-blade spinnerbaits. They don't have a huge selection but you seriously can't beat $1 buzzbaits. I've got several in my box and I've got no reservations against throwing a $1 buzz into nasty cover looking for that big fish. A $15 crankbait, yeah, that scares me off sometimes.

I was just looking at that the other day and will pick up a couple this weekend . Hope your knee is healing up alright Trent told me about it.
