Spring Bass Tactics

Hay all I get lots of great advise in WL.com thanx. New questions: I bass fish rivers in eddies and rapids and have lots of luck! But I have failed to dialed in the lakes. Any Advise I nea kitsap and Island lake. I tried bouncing a fat black worm on the bottom with no luck. What does your set up usualy look like? Thanx for your time.

Spinnerbaits have done well for me when the fish are a little more active and are up in the shallows...Otherwise, senkos, t-rigged worms, jigs, will pull fish that are still sluggish from the cold water.

also try fishing the deeper areas near spawning grounds this early.

My biggest out of Kitsap came on a senko(red/black) flylined, working it real slow. Jigs with beefy trailers work on both lakes. Keep with the dark colors. I'd tell you to throw swimbaits out there, but of course that doesn't work around here. 
Crawdads exist in both lakes, so throw something similiar or pick up some Huddlebugs and you'll be tagging them. Give it a little bit more time and it will start heating up around here. Don't hesitate to shoot me a PM. I'm local and fish both those lakes and others all over the Pennisula.

For water temps between 60 and 70 degrees, jerkbaits are very effective. (Husky jerk, X-RAP, etc.) Football-head jigs + a soft plastic trailer are also good. Once water temps are over 70, senkos, lizards, and crankbaits are the ticket.
I have not had much success when water temps were in the 50s -- espeically when it comes to smallmouth bass. They can probably be caught, but I'm not sure what rig would work the best. I've heard that bucktail jigs under a float work well in cold water, but it might be difficult to get them down to the right depth. In Missouri, I'd fish with live minnows, but they are illegal in WA... [-x

It's too bad we don't have the legend named Dave Newby here on the forums. For any who have read his reports, he definitely knows his bass. I always admire his early season reports from Silver lake...The dude can catch fish...

your right there sam! monsters! i think i saw on one of those pics of his a jig-n-craw combo in the early spring. im going to have to search for it.

i would say that jigs or soft plastics brought in slow along the bottom around weedlines (if they are present) and deeper holes that can hold some winter/early spring bass

Search his name. The dude is an animal when it comes to pulling out LOTS of BIG BASS. I would really like to fish backseat behind the dude for a day or two. I'm sure I could learn to much, and gain a ton of experience from that dude.
