20lb is light for some applications. Line test and type all depend on the technique being used at the time. I have anything from 5lb to 65lb in mono, flouro, and braid tied on my reels.

Try using 6- or 8lb line when flipping in heavy vegetation with lots of wood. It's not about the fish size it's about the environment that bass live. In open water, I may use 6-10lb line, but in shallow combat bass conditions, it's usually 17-20lb except for my flipping stick which is 80# braid.

BTW, you are so lucky to live in Anacortes. There is alot of great bass water nearby. I envy you.
