What are your favorite bass scents?

Post by HillbillyGeek » Tue Jan 08, 2008 10:39 pm

There are lots of different scents on the market for plastic lures, and some that even cling to crankbaits. What scents have you guys used that worked the best?

I've caught a lot of trout with anise and garlic scents, but bass don't seem to like 'em. The same is true of Mike's shrimp gel scent. Works great for trout, but bass don't like it.

I've caught a lot of bass using Mike's crayfish lunker lotion. Perch really dig it too. Trout and salmon won't go near it.

Roland Martin endorses megastrike scent in all of his shows. Have you guys tried it? I've never seen it in stores. Even bass pro shops doesn't carry it. I was at the outdoor world in Springfield over the holidays, and none of the guys in the fishing department had even heard of it. (They got on their walkie-talkies and did a quick survey.)

Anise is my go to for a gel type (mike lunker lotion or smelly jelly). If I want to spray something on a crankbait Ill go with craw or garlic by YUM.

You cant go wrong with any of them bass will inhale all of the above.

I use either Original Megastrike or the Yamamoto Crawfish Megastrike. Both are available at Auburn Sports and Marine and Cabelas has the Yamamoto type. It's a good product from a good company with great customer support! You can also buy it straight from the company.http://www.megastrike.com/

I use megastrike as well. Mostly for greasing up swimbaits, but I do apply on everything else too - can't say it really helped, but def hasn't hurt.

I've got a medium amount of megastrike, in a top secret holder/dispenser, that I've used before and I have sprayed some YUM Craw on a bait or two. I have not used it consistently so everything I have written is useless and for informational purposes only.

BTW - Welcome HB to the lake!

thanks man, the thing i like most about megastrike is that it isn't messy. most scents are nasty and get all over the place.

The megastrike web site sucks! They advertise the new Yamamoto scent, but there's no way to buy it! Go figure... :-k

Try calling or e-mailing them.

sales@megastrike.com

I e-mailed them about a tube that I had some problems with and the owner was very quick to respond and quite helpfull. After that experience with their customer service I'll be using their products for a long time.

Has anyone tried "Carolina Lunker Sauce? It's not oil-based like a lot of the other scents on the market, and is formulated to pentrate soft plastics rather than just coat them. According to the package, a 5 minute marinade lasts 35 - 60 minutes, which is longer than most of my senkos last. (Senkos definitely catch fish, but they are not very durable.)

I used Megastrike for years with really good results. It is good stuff. I now use Upper Hand Scents I put this in my plastic when I am making it, and I also put some in my bags of finished baits that I personally use. It only takes a couple of drops. This stuff is potent. Check it out.

I rarely use scent any more because most of my plastics are enhanced with taste and smell already. I used to use Smelly Jelly crawdad and Fish Formula anise scents.
