Has anyone been catching smallmouth this winter in western Washington lakes? What's your opinion about trying American Lake for them in March?

Never been there, but I'm sure they'll bite if you can find them. Look for rock.

Ive been catching em since the start of the new year on both Washington and Sammamish. Look for deep water breaks in 30-60ft deep with hard bottom or like kzoo said rock. 3/4-1oz football heads with your favorite plastic on the back. I prefer a sweet beaver. Also a dropshot with a 6"-5' leader. The most popular technique this time of year is dragging basically using ur trolling motor to troll along the bottom super slow. Make sure you learn how to properly fizz a fish if you plan on putting it in your livewell. This time of year is a great time for a true giant.
