"Hike in" Lakes in Western WA??

Post by bassackwards » Sat Aug 11, 2007 4:08 pm

I'm looking for a good lake or two that's "hike-able" (not sure that's a word) for a good day trip. Hike a few hours, fish a few hours, have lunch and hike out.

I know there are a TON of books on day hikes but I want to make sure I'm gonna find some water. I'm not looking for the popular spots, I'm looking for the off the beaten path spots that take some skill to get to.

Update...I hooked into about a 3#er at Yellow Lake yesterday, got it to about arms length and it shook me lose, I'm getting closer...takin the kids out tonight for round two.

Thanks in advance for the lake info.

there are plenty of lakes you can hike to for trout, including golden trout, which are really rare, but not sure about bass. This is a good question!

Check out Tradition Lake out in Issaquah. It is a hike in lake I think only about a mile or so. It is in the lake reports so you could check it out here first. It sounds like it has some decent bass in it, but I have never fished it but I have been meaning to for a long time.

Thanks Mallard...I've been wanting to hit that one too. I'm going to Google Earth it and see where the heck it is. I'll let you know how the fishing is, maybe save you a hike.

Tradition Lake is in the Tiger Mountain Park and it is right off I-90 not sure on the exact exit number but it is easy to find. I think it may be a float tube only lake looks like the shoreline is thick with brush. I have not been on the trail to the Lake but was at Tiger Moutain. If I am recalling correctly it is about a 1.5 mile hike to the lake from the Trail head. The trails are wll marked. Looking forward to seeing your report after you fish it. Good luck and may you catch a lunker!

Tradition is definitely a float-tube or raft only lake. The shoreline is almost impossible to fish from. Plus, later in the summer the water level drops significantly, which tends to make it even more difficult to fish from shore.

Thanks guys. Just so happens....I have keys to the gate to DRIVE back there. If you see a PSE truck or a guy fishing in a hard hat, that's me (don't bother me though, I'M "WORKING").

Gotta love it!!!!!!!
