Little fellers

Post by Splitshot » Sat Jul 10, 2010 1:25 pm

My third time ever fishing for bass last night. Got one or two bumps with every cast but they were small- only got two to the boat- 8" & 9" I was fishing lilly pads and snags along the shore in 3-4' of water.

My quetion is- is there a better place to look for lunkers?

Back under the pads, under docks - preferabaly the docks that are closer to the water. Deep water and deep water docks. Rock piles in deep water, and logs. Bushes and brush. Submerged weeds like milfoil and such. Outside weed edges by deep water, dropoffs.

And of course it all depends on the type of lake, and time of day, and time of year/season.

Sounds like bigger fish = deeper water.

Thanks!

deep lilli pads are great big fish waters. Try top waters at last and first light near the pads. Any of this sunshine will be tough to fish, during the day they might be sitting in the deep or tucked in some nice deep lilli pads. Try using a rubber frog if the pads are flush to the water.

When I was fishing eastern wa lakes and getting a small bass on every cast in the shallows I switched over to a dropshot with a big worm on it. Instead of casting straight into the shore/rocks and pulling it into the water, I started casting 6-10ft short of the rocks, and dragging it into the depths, and then my catch went from 6-12 inch dinks, to 3lb smallmouths.

just one experience to take from :-"
