dean be working hard, or hardly working, but ill chime in fo da moment.

there be some personal experience thrown into this thing we call "research". i can recall when the water was barely high 50s and were already were throwing topwater. most of our stuff is just that. obviously in the earlier months, most lakes wont hit that high, but to know when and where they do - well you just have to watch out.

a birdie once told me fish will definitely rise to the occasion, though i would have to double check with that birdie to confirm.

ice off at most lakes, its already game on. we know cats [dawg cats, not cat cats] dead sticking stuff much earlier than us. does it produce - awe hells yea.

believe it if you will, but if you dont - thats more power to us.

In that first post I was talking about catching trophys, not numbers. Everyone knows that topwater bass can be caught early, its not a secret, but most wont, I do. This year it didnt work out for me, but I tried it fo sho.

As for research, there is plenty more sites and info sources out there besides this site. Just read other reports from other sites and you will see.

Disclaimer: I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT NUMBERS HERE, I AM TALKING ABOUT HAVING A BETTER CHANCE AT BIG FEESH, THATS ALL.

OK, I'll give you the fact that early can be a great time for the monsters. I am not sure that topwater is the best way to catch the big females that cruise the shallows early, but it will work.

Personally, I'll toss a swim bait this time of year instead of a topwater, but that is just me.:-"
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

I will apologize for my misuderstanding of the regulations....although I would't put my comment about not keeping LM in the catagory of "coming down on a guy...if you apologize for saying that Long Lake is nothing special. That is just plain hurtful. Right up there with saying somones kid is ugly.....I'm kidding of course. In the small (35 boats) tournament I fished on Long last month it took almost 22 pounds to win and that was with the 2 LM restriction in place. There were a dozen LM weighed over 5lbs, a couple of 6's and one SM over 6 and too many 4's too even mention. Had you been allowed to keep 5 Lm it would have taken 25#'s or better to win. We were chucking 4's all day because we already had 2 that were over 5. It is no secret but it is SPECIAL for sure. When I meet guys on the NW Bass curcuit from the other side of the state Long Lake is inevitably ends up in the conversation.

Loucipher,

My comment about 8lb. line being absurd wasn't intended to be hurtful. I was just trying to make a point. Obviously you can fish however you want. It appeared to me that the guy was trying to figure out what he SHOULD be using vs what COULD be used...which is what you were saying. We don't know what the guy is trying to accomplish and making a bold statement like you only need ONE thing probably isn't that much help to him. Can we have a group hug now?
Just reminding you that both of us have soft spots. LOL

I guess I know other lakes well enough that it is often hard to go to a new place when you know you will do well already. Of course, most of these lake are not big enough for tournaments. I had my day, fishing out of Colorado Springs, and I won enough to know I can, but tournaments just don't do it for me anymore. I fish more for my own peace, and relaxation, so I suppose our goals are different.

Additionally:

I was told when I came to Spokane that Long Lake was know as (and now Mike or Aaron are going to nail me to the wall) **** lake, because of all the times the Spokane City waste water treatment plant had backed up or spilled sewage into Long. It takes a lot of courage to want to fish a lake with a reputation like that.#-o :-({|=

I admit, I am getting over what I was told, but it was not that long ago when the death accused at the sewage plant when it again broke down and spilled thousands of gallons into the Spokane River, directly above Long Lake.:-&

So, forgive me when I think that perhaps, just maybe, I don't think Long Lake is something special. I meant no offense, kidding or otherwise. And who knows, perhaps someday, when I get over the fact that I am suppose to wait to launch until 0630 and am suppose to be off the water and out of the area by dusk (1/2 hour after sunset), that I may include Long in one of my top 5 list.:-$

When I say topwater I mean swimbaits, waking to be exact. Not buzzers, not poppers, not even walk the dog per say. Oh ya, not paddetails either. There, now thats cleared up, haha:compress:

There is a 24 hour launch on Long. It is up river and not the monster it is made out to be either. I was totally kidding about be offended by not having the same affection for Long as myself. I did whack a another 4 or 5 on the buzzer tonight. I put the boat in my brother-in-laws shop with the camera in the glove box. I will pick it up tomorrow and post. Nothing exciting but I did make my son take the pics before removing the buzzer.
