:-k I think its all BS As far as washing your hands while fishing to bait your hook . when did the sent deal even start? I've just started using sent on my jigs this year has it made a difference I don't think so. I have caught just as many in the past. But if you or any one else feels this is the s@*( then keep doing it. I think its all the way you work your baits. Or its just a good placement of your cast. YES BASS can smell very well, I would say REACTION STRIKES!!!

Besides, call me strange, but I absolutely love the smell of bass on my hands, especially big bass. They should make bass scented soap so they could always smell that way.
I wouldn't call you strange Nik. I love the smell as well. Expecially getting on the water and you can just smell them and you know the bite is going to be on.
Bass have a very distinctive smell.

Fishinislife,..ChrisB,..words of wisdom,..how can the Bass "NOT" detect human scent? How do you think they get to be "State-Records"? If the Bass/Fish could not "Smell" odors then we would catch alot more lunkers,..LOL!

I do think that bass has a great sence of smell. But for the most part I think its a reaction strike we as anglers in turn get fish. When I buy a repala I pull it out and start using it and get fish I didn't wash up first I didn't add a fish lure sent to it. So why did they hit the lure? As for hunting if your 47 then you know the cover sent thing didn't come out untill the 80's. But most world records were pre 80's? I hunt and when hunting for the southern white tail I used cover sent didn't smoke and it made no difference than when we were walking down the road talking and smoking we would see most of the deer we shot. Last year while elk hunting smokeing and talking to my buddys who were also smokeing and a heard walks right up to us so cover sents I don't know if its just something else to buy!

Lets see,..I've bought a new Rapala,..took it out the box,..attached it to my line and tossed it in the water,..w/in minutes fish-on,..I was appealing to the Bass's sense of Sight,..these fish see up to 24 colors in the Spectrum,..Bass also have Olfactory Organs and 4 Nostrils,..2 lower and 2 upper,..water passes through them and this in turn tells the brain the findings,..as Bass get older the Olfactory Organs grow in the amount of folds contained causing their sense of smell to be more accute,..to say that these fish don't have a "Great Sense Of Smell",..well you do the research,..I know I have!
