Trent , Im with ya on using big baits for bigger fish and i think a person who is a prime example of this is "Tad Watson" ..But you gotta remember that there many different levels of anglers on this site . Alot guys are just looking to have a none stop catching day out on the lake and if there biggest is only a 3 pounder thats cool with them. You sound like you have advanced from the numbers game and now you are totally focused on size only and that tells me that you have been bassing for a while . I also share that same mind set but im working hard on combining the two worlds together and within a 7hrs slot ..Example when im in a tourney on washington or sammamish and we only got from 5:30 to 3pm to get it done and if i threw nothing but large plastics and swimbaits all day i run the risk of only catching maybe two fish ..well even if they are both 6lb that's only giving me 12lbs total (Basic).. if i stick with smaller baits and get a quick limit within the first two hours that's a easy 12-13 lbs and i have the rest of the day to cull ..The point im trying to make here is i feel like a good angler will always be a well rounded angler and knows when to adjust too get a bite .If have a day out and i caught three 3pounders and two 4's (im stoked) job well done..(How many anglers have these days on a regular?) not many.. Secondly I feel like there are only a few lakes in washington period that i consider "big bait lakes" long, whatcom, silver, and moses .. The rest of the lake are number lakes .. and the "average" angler needs to know how to be consistent out there .. I hope you got my point form this im not raining on your thread , just giving my opinion based on my experience .. Be safe out there dude and good job on the hogs so far this year ...

Yea I here ya. I have been doing this for a while,Would love to get it to a tournement I think the boat I'm in would rank in the top 5 or even win. I have caught many small fish on a 10in but a good day on the water is 25 lbs of fish for me but this dosen't always happen. The last two weeks has been tough "weather" as for every one unless your after SMB they seam to be hitting good. I like to get guys to try what you would think no way they will eat this or thats to big untill they have there line striping off and cant do any thing about it that will hook guys forever on bassing. I push big lures to get the stores to stock them if every one is asking for them. The culprit worms I push are at every Walmart up to Utah and then I cant find them any where up here These worms to me are the best hands down and they range from 4in-12in with many others. Check out Culprit.com and look at the lunkers they produce most are in the south but the bass like them here too.If I'm not gitting hits on the big baits I do down size to a 7.5 or even the craw. And as far as big lakes I have caught them in small lakes all around Kitsap and Mason and the large lakes. Some times I'm surprised at the size of fish in the smaller lakes that will slam the larger worms like Island lake in silverdale its a small lake with plenty of food for the bass and there are some big bass in there. I use 17 lb test and they have broken my line on the hit. But for the guys who want to get there 5 for the day yes use the 7.5 or smaller baits I have a 10 pounder on the wall that I caught on the second cast in the lake from the bank with a 7.5 black culprit. I just like to get guys out there to catch a fish thats a fish of a life time.
Are you hung up again!
HAWG HUNTER!

I Admire your motivation about tourney fishing but honestly making top five in on a circuit like NWBASS is very very difficult , those guys are mostly semi-pro or been fishing these waters since a young boys .. I placed 19th on NW BASS on washington and Ron Hobbs and his dad finished 15th .. Too me personally that was hugh , hell making the top 20 is very hard .. There are more guys on these waters that will hand you your lunch on any giving day than you may think .. Not having a boat isn't a handicap .. Just join a club in your area and you will give a good feel of where you stand against local bass guys ,sounds like you ready .... stay safe and keep me posted on that email you sent ..

You can change it if you wish.
As far as my favorite plastics to throw: Senko T-Rigged, Roboworm T-Rig or D-Shot, and just recently the Culprit 12" T-Rig.

panic minnows are nothing new. i learned how good they were from james smiley, seems alot more people are catching on to them now though.
FM, we should get out to beaver here pretty soon, i will show you how to work jigs, they are a classic big bass bait, there also known as the money bait. theres a reason for that.
culprit worms are classic. nothing new about how they catch fish, im suprised alot of people still dont use them, i believe they were the first plastic worm invented. not possitive though.

There are alot of plastics out there and you have to feel your way though to find out what you like to throw. Me personally, I use Net-Bait Paca Craws, The senko in red shad laminate and green pumpkin. I also use custom pured "slugs" for dropshotting. 7in power worm in motor oil or red shad. I use the Paca Craw a couple different ways, first is a tex rig with a 1/2 or 3/4 oz tungsten weight as a flipping bait for heavy wood and structure or in thick weed beds. (great for punching nasty weeds) The senkos are a versatile lure that I have used wacky rigged where you hook it through the smooth "egg sack", t-rigged, carolina rigged or drop shotted. Yes you heard me right drop shotted. I also use a Zoom Superfluke, this bait is VERY versatile. You texas rig it and use it as a plastic jerkbait, you can dropshot and lead head rig the smaller flukes for monster smallmouth. As I said though, there is a wide range of plastics. I could keep going but I would be typing forever.

I like YUM Dingers for a variety of applications.
I also like 7 1/2" Culprit in Tequila Sunrise, Texas-rigged of course.
I carry a few 10-12 inch Culprits for specific applications and specifis waters.
And Baby Brush Hogs!!!

I've got plenty of Culprit worms (7.5 & 12"), Zoom lizards and black trick worms (really been producing lately on a weightless T-rig), and Senkos (4 & 5" in green pumpkin). These all see a lot of use. My newest discovery is the Sweet Beaver from Reaction Innovations that I order from Tackle Warehouse online. The Penetration and Green Goby are my favorite colors, T-rigged with a 3/8 to 1/2oz tungsten weight for punching thru pads. Caught a bunch of 3-4lbers on those out here in WA. My biggest fish (8+ lbs out of Island Lake in Kitsap Co in Oct '06) came on a 3" green pumpkin Yum Craw Bug with a 1/16oz weight fished on a light spinning rig with 6lb line (that was a heck of a fight). I still use those alot when the bite is tough.
