Bass Fishing with "The Wife"....**UPDATE**
In our busy lives with work, our three kids and sports/activities...as many of you can attest to...my wife and I haven't been out on a "date" in over a year. We originally had planned to go golfing, but at hour 11 to my surprise, my wife suggested that we rent a canoe, pack a lunch and hit one of the local lakes and do a little fishing...in case any of you are wondering...
THERE IS A GOD!!!!!
So, I went to Joe's a picked up their 14' rental and we're all set for a day on the lake. I'm pretty stoked since I've been shore bound the last few months. This'll give me the chance to see if I want to make the canoe investment or go for something different.
The only thing she asked me was "are you gonna talk to me this time"? LOL...I'm not a real chatty guy when I'm fishing.
Anyone else have any cool "wife fishing" stories???
I'll post a follow up report tomorrow and hopefully some pictures of some friggin fish...
Wish me luck.

Thanks Rosann. She doesn't know it but I'm planting the "fishing seed", she's never been REAL fishing and she's never been in a canoe. Should make for an interesting day on the water. I'm hoping she hooks into a nice fighter and then wants to go shopping for her own rod and reel. Stranger things have happened.Rosann G wrote:Hope you two have a good time together. Good stuff Bassackwards. That's great that you guys are getting out. And to fish of all things! :bounce:
My wife and I just had our 5yr anniversary and we were deciding wether or not to go out to a really nice dinner and a movie or to take a trip somewhere or .........
Well I had stupidly forgot exactly which day it was (thought it was on Sat. and it was Fri.) and I planned a fishing trip with a buddy of mine for Fri. So the night before I called and cancelled the trip and apologized to my wife for being retarded. Of coarse she forgave me and then proceeded to ask if we could go fishing for our anniversary.
What? Well of coarse we can. Well to make this short. We packed a picnic basket and gear, had a picnic on the lake and then fished the rest of the night. It was great and she really enjoyed it. And yes, we caught some fish.
But I realized long before this I have a very cool wife. She also loves sports and video games.

Wow, I must be a lucky man! My wife loves to fish and was instrumental in our new boat purchase 2 years ago. My only requirement was the boat had to be big enough for the two of us and my 2yr old Yellow Lab plus it had to have a full canvas so we could heat it during winter fishing trips. Was a win/win deal.
Now my wife is my only fishing buddy. Guys, get your girls out on the water!!!!

**UPDATE**
Didn't get any fish, can't say we didn't try though. We threw everything at them in every dept of water, by the docks, lilly pads, you name it. NOTHIN....
We had a great time on the lake though. I was surprised how warm Pine Lake is. It got a little windy towards the early afternoon so we called it quit around 2ish.
One of the things I figured out today was, I'm not getting a canoe for fishing. What a nightmare!!! I spent half my day fighting the wind and keeping us in position to make a decent cast. We just about killed (hooked) each other on several occasions.
My wife was a trooper. Even though I couldn't get her her first fish....EVER....(bad husband)
Now I'm off to shop for an aluminum baot.

Looks like Cottage...that lake can be tough sometimes. Looks like even though no fish, you kept the better half happy!

Haha, Mr. Magler you're not lyin'. Funny how that works.
I'm single right now but I'm currently holding interviews and a fishing interest is definitely needed to move on to the next round. :thumleft: :smurfin: =d>

Was that you in the Jon Boat? The lake was pretty much "boatless" when we got there. I think you were the only one out when we put-in.tnj8222 wrote:i saw you out there yesterday in that canoe.. i didnt know joes rented them... to bad you guys didnt catch anything. should have tossed out for trout. they were biting pretty good. i posted a report about it.
Sad to say, we tried a bit of trout trolling, but got skunked at that also. I'm claiming distraction, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I'll give you a shout next time out.

Try Craigs list for an aluminum boat. It amazes me how many boats are listed on there every day. I've seen some good deals. How much money do you want to spend and do you want enough room to take your kids too?
My husband and I have been fishing together, off and on through the years, for 32 years now. When our son was still home he went along some of the time but it does make a good date time too. Kids don't have a long attention span for fishing unless the fish are really biting. Now we take our son and 2 grandsons sometimes. Through the years I have fished some of the time and read and relaxed some of the time but it's always nice to be on the water together. We have worked our way up from an 8' wooden pram through 5 boats to the 17' Lund that we have now. Good luck on your boat shopping and your fishing together.:bounce:
