Hey smallies are rather eggy fish. I am a believer in keeping the smaller (under 12") fish within the regs. The old slot limit here kept you from taking the 12-18's, and only one above 18. I wouldn't have a bad word to say about those who take the smaller ones, but turn the trophies loose. They are the producers, and their progeny are the lunkers of tomorrow. When you think anglers taking limits are hard on the fish population, just imagine the number of largemouth fry each of those midsized smallies eats every year. There is a balance, and it is one that WDFW has a vested interest in. I think you will see a bit of growth in largemouth populations thanks to this change...
