rizzla- good story! i really like fishing on or near the surface when i target bass. my favorite is a double bladed spinner bait with a black and yellow skirt that puts a wake on the surface, those surface strikes are awsome. this leads to a story of the 60 plus 3LB average bass week i had in minnesota back in 1986. this was such a fantastic year for the lrgmth bass that i still shake my head thinking about it. i was fishing this area that has two big culverts going from one body of water to the next. there was this patch of lilly pads that were way out of reach regular poles so i broke out my 16 ft telescoping pole. i was able to hit a small open pocket about 2ftx3ft at the far end what i could cast. now i'm not kidding when i say that every cast i made into that sweet spot a 3lb bass slammed the spinner bait. after the the 5th fish i was laughing at my good luck. that day i caught over 40 bass this was late in the day and only stopped because the babysitter needed to go home. the next day was saturday so the wife and i got there early. the same thing happened all day long. that day i caught more than 80 bass, all 3lbs. the next day i went over to a small bridge heading to the sweet spot figured i might see some fish. i saw fish alright, there was probably 30-40 bass all the same size just sitting there hardly moving. well they were going to have to wait for me because i had to see just how many i was going to get from that sweet spot. i fished a another three days (i worked nights) almost every cast was a new fish, the total average was around 60 fish. the fish just stopped after a week of non stop action. latter that summer it was almost just as good fishing for northern pike. the fallowing winter was pretty cold froze the waters in this water system to the mud the fallowing spring they took out tons of dead fish bass walleye pike carp etc. there was even a mass kill off with the snapping turtles, needless to say that year was no good. never saw anything close to that year of fishing anywhere else. this was on a watersystem of the crow river in central minnesota lots of shinners in this system and at times there would be an explosion of them which i'm figureing what help this odd abundance of bass and there average size size. good times. <')//<
