Bassmasters Classic 2008
Im not sure how many of you watched it, but Ive got to say...it got me more than ready to start bass fishing again! I wasnt sure who was gonna win, but somehow I just had a feeling KVD would finish at least in the top 3. I felt bad for Hartley, always hard to lose some1 who was so close to you.
One thing I found entertaining was the small section about swim-baits and the new unique models they have out.
What were your guy's thoughts about the BMC 2008?

If in doubt set the hook!

RE:Bassmasters Classic 2008
watched every bit of it. it was sad for ol' hartley to take a dive on the last day, but, he decided to stick with what had worked the previous day, and conditions had changed BIG TIME. vandam and hackney made awesome runs, due to the fact, they changed, went with the football jig with a craw trailer, started catching bigger, quality fish, staying away from those spotted bass that were weighing less. conditions were tough, and still, stringers over 40 lbs., i'd love to see it when fishing is hot! wow! i learned a ton about crankbaits, and, i know i dont have the expertise to fish them, they were all talking about swimbaits (big ones, too).
RE:Bassmasters Classic 2008
Over all it was good. AJ deserved the win. Even though condition were tough I think 20-25lb stringer is whats to be expected from that lake based on what Casey Ashley was saying last year. Now when the Elite series is at Falcon lake watch out. You will see some 9+ lb fish every day out of that body of water.

RE:Bassmasters Classic 2008
i still remember watching a tourny (cant remember which curcuit) they were fishing at a big name lake in california and the top 5 fisherman in the tourny all caught their bass on large swim baits, i remember one guy lost a 10lb+ fish on a spinner bait and followed up with a large rainbow trout swim bait and re-hooked the bass and landed him, i believe he might of won the tourny also.
swimbaits work!

RE:Bassmasters Classic 2008
Yes it was Clear Lake. 40.7 lbs (I think) brought in by Steve Kennedy on day 2 for a 5 fish limit - WOW!!!! Several fish over 7lbs had to be released due to being foul hooked. Will be fishing there in mid April for the Stren Western as a co-angler as an anniversary present from my wife (she totally rocks). Swim baits are dialed in and can't wait to get on the water there. Should be an awesome time.
I think ya mean Alton won it? Adam is now an Oriole.

I was hoping this year no different than last year for KVD to win , but he cant win them all.. I think Alton Put in the work and made the right moves through out the three days and thats what did it for him . Too me thats the Best aspect about the classic , anglers dont fish it for second place . I will say when greg shot up to second place my heart was thumping , that guy is a bass fishing machine . Did i hear someone say KVD 2009 3 times classic champ ...i think i did hear that ...lol ..Overall two thumps up!! =d> =d> BBD

Funny thing is I was reading Mariner news at the same time. I don't know how Adam was on my mind though. Maybe I just miss the guy already. Good luck to you skeeter bassin on Clear Lake. It's a lot harder lake then people make it out to be. All you see is the good news that comes out of there. Put in your work man, I think you'll do very well.

That was a great classice. I was rooting for hartly but everyone had it right when they said he smoked his water. It's not that the conditions had changed, he fished out every hole he pre-fished. Vandam looked lost until the water started to warm up each day, save day one of course. Anywho was a good three days.

RE:Bassmasters Classic 2008
Overall, I was very dissapointed in the coverage. They continue to take a lot of the fishing related aspects out of the show. I only remember seeing 2 or so of the baits the guys were using... yet there was like 30 mins devoted to coach Knight talking (nothing to do with bass fishing). I know they are trying to get non-fishers interested in the shows but they contradict themselves (and have gone to far). If the coverage is going to be geared towards the masses then play it during prime time on ESPN, but who is going to watch it at 5am on ESPN2... only serious bassers. Just my 2 cents.
Other than than that it was good fishing.

7pm is prime time. And also dont forget it was hosted out of the east so 5am for us is 8am for them. If fishing wasn't directed toward the masses then people wouldn't be fishing for millions.trucknmusic wrote:Overall, I was very dissapointed in the coverage. This years coverage was great compared to previous years. 2 hours of bass fishing during prime time, what else could you want.

RE:Bassmasters Classic 2008
To clarify... I was referring to the day 1 coverage early in the morning (which is also normal time). Though I still don't think 7pm on ESPN2 is good enough for the fishing championship - especially for a sport owned by ESPN common - lets see it on ESPN1. The real frustration is that they showed so little fishing. What other sport do you only get to see maybe 10% of the game. It would be like showing one hole golf matches. They can fish for the big $ not only bc their might be more viewers but mainly bc the sponsors... who I am sure would put more money into it if their products got more air time. Can anyone tell me what jig Jones won it on, on what line, w/ what rod, or how he was fishing it... from the TV coverage - I know I can't. But I am not asking for a boring info show that only serious bassers would like, I just think they need to find a middle ground. Just my opinion.
RE:Bassmasters Classic 2008
To be honest yes I did hear Alton say what he was using. He was very specific acutally in telling what he was doing and how while he was on the water.
I dont watch the classic expecting to really learn anything but just because its fun. Its exciting to see who wins and watch the coverage. Theres plenty of other resources to watch and read during the rest of the year.
The classic and coverage was cool. For more info read this
