Book for Bassheads

I bought a book at Borders a few weeks ago called Bass Wisdom by Homer Circle. It is a great but but its cool because the author isn't all about the South. Many of his tips and tactics are ones that would fit the bass from the NW. He fishes slow!!!! It has a lot of insight into the world of bass (the author worked with Glen Lau), and I have learned a bunch of new tactics from it. I think I finally know how to properly work a few more baits than when I started.

Thanks for the tips on some good reads. When I bought my boat, the seller gave me 1/2 of her husbands fishing encyclopedia from the North America Fishing Club. Probably 20 or so huge books. I have learned so much, many tips, tricks, and info to hopefully fill the livewells. I hear that she has another key for the boat that I can pick up, maybe the other half of the books!

Reading is indeed a great way to learn. All we need to do is check out the books at out local libraries. That is what I do and then if I like the book enough, I just might buy it.

I also keep a list of those books with their ISBN numbers to find them quickly to re-check the book.

I too have read a book written by Homer. It was titled, "Circle on Bass. Bass Wisdom from a Master" It was the first bass book I read.

IB’s Note: Tons of information about the color shift that happens underwater. While it mainly focuses on steelhead and salmon, the knowledge Dr. Kageyama imparts is invaluable for bass anglers too. BTW, there is a bass section that I found most informative. I have become a better angler after reading this book. Make better, more educated selections in your choices for lure colors.

I use the library all the time. If your library doesn't have the book you (almost all libraries do this) can get an ILL stands for Inter Library Loan. Just ask someone at the library. They will do it for you. It is for books but not DVD's.

I used the ILL to get Knowing Bass at my local library. My only complaint is that it took a long time to get the book, and then I wasn't alowed to renew it. Can't beat the price though.

I just got a gift subscription to paper spine(like netflix for books), which is another option for those who read a lot. They seem to have a really good selection of books (I just added Bass Wisdom and this oneto my que).

I have an old bass book by Stan Fagerstrom called "Catch More Bass" that was printed in 1973. Stan is an old angler about my age and lived on the shores of Cowlitz County's Silver Lake for many years. He was a sort of Dave Newby of yesteryear. Some of you may have seen him at sport shows doing casting demos. Ol' Homer Circle is another old dude like me. I have a personal note from him attached to an awards certificate for catching the biggest bass in Washington State that was entered in the "Sports Afield" fishing contest in 1991. Reading is one way to increase your bass angling knowledge but the most fun way is chasing "Ol Minnow Breath" out on the lakes. Spring is just around the corner.

Anybody ever try westernbass.com for video and book rentals? Just look for it at the homepage under resources. It's 5 bucks (Including S&H) to rent a bassin video or book. They have about 75 videos and about 30 books. I will probably try this out pretty soon but it seems like a good deal.
