Are bragging rights considered a ticketable prize?

They won't be for me because I am too lazy/Google dumb to find the answer after three guesses..

Alright ladies and gents, this has been a lot of fun. I have enjoyed chatting with all of you. Hope you guys had fun searching around and discovering a new bass. You all had great guesses and the most would have to be the Guadalupe Bass and a close second would be the Shoal. I must admit that this fish looks very similiar to the Guadalupe, so you guys know you bass. But this bass in particular is a...........

"Meanmouth Bass" hybrid cross between a SMB and a Spotted.

I think there was only two people who nailed it on the first try.
Hope you guys enjoyed this.

Here are a couple links to some cool reads about this bass.

Has anyone around here ever caught one?

Interesting. I thought the mean mouth was an urban legend talked about around campfires.

nah its the real deal nowadays. still a little rare to catch but they are there. kinda like the elusive and very very large (up to thirty pound) catfish in lacamas/round lake.

I was one of the two that got it right the first time, but I thought it was a SMB x LMB. I was sure that is what the Colorado Hatchery guy told me in the early 80's, so now I am so confused.

One thing is for sure, yes, I have caught a couple, out of a test pond, and they are a blast. But I doubt that they will stay in the water for long, I think they will hit anything at all put in the water.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

to clarify stuff up.

a meanmouth is a hybrid between and smallmouth and a spotted bass. that is, they are the two bass that create meanmouth in the wild.

hatcheries have bred largemouth and smallmouth bass together to make "mean mouth" bass but they do not occur in the wild.

so yes, they both are considered mean mouth bass. but spotted/smallmouth occur naturally and largemouth/smallmouth only occur in hatcheries.

and i got it on the first guess also.

I had no idea...sounds kind of interesting.

I once told my wife, back in the day when I fished for bass twenty years ago, I was going fishing for "smartmouth" bass as a joke and then got in trouble later after she told her co-workers I was going after smartmouth and they teased her saying there was no such thing. Gotta take care with what you tell the non-fisher-folk.
