whats with the rope ? good question are you telling us you kept all those fish ? Man that is what ruined all the south king county lakes before. Well everyone go fish Killarney before they are all gone. I swear this state will never have a good bass fishery until they make it illegal to retain fish over 12" . go ahead and ban me , cuz I'm about to ban myself , it just makes me sick to see idiots like this and I dont think I can subject myself to it anymore.

Well do you see a live well in the boat? Where did he say he was keeping bass? Did he take the photo in his kitchen?
I disagree about this state not having a good bass fishery. I've fished at a lot of well known lakes in the south, Lake Okeechobee, Kissimmee, Stick Marsh, Farm Pond 13, Toho, Forks, and etc looking for the big ones. As soon as I move out here, people are catching bass in these small lakes that surpassed my largest. I think the biggest reason is that it's trout stocked lakes.
Yeah, it sucks if someone keeps a trophy, but is it going to destroy the lake? No, A bass that size couldn't have many years to go, and it's probably spawned many times.
One more thing about keeping bass, it's not all the sudden a new thing. People have been keeping bass for years! The older tournaments in the 60's and 70's there was a 10 bass limit, they didn't have livewells, they used stringers, and when they finished weighing, they were dinner or went to the garden.
The states bass management is reasonable, slot limits are great for keeping quality fish in lakes and with the trout stocking they will always produce large fish. There is not one state out there in the US that says cannot retain bass more than 12".

RE:Nothing to see here , move along lol .
I have done this many of times. No scale, no tape measure, use a rope to measure the fish. Measure the length make a mark, measure the girth, make a mark. Then when I get home I measure (with a tape measure) the 2 marks, apply the 2 variables to a "special" formula and tah dah you have a pretty good estimate of the weight of the fish. Dont know if this was his intention, but neither do you.
P.S. most people wouldnt have known the lake if it were left a secret like the fishermen had intended :thumright

so what you are saying is that we should continue to mismanage lakes and keep our heads in the sand ?kzoo wrote:

if I kept every fish from small lakes that I caught there would be no fish left for anyone else in that lake and thats a fact. So yes I could go out and destroy any one of the small lakes in this area within a months time. I guarantee those fish have been released by ME and if I kept them he would have caught nothing and would be like wow this lake sucks. That goes for Dolloff , North , Geneva , Killarney , Trout , Star , Morton . I've caught tons and tons of fish from those lakes and I could clean them out if I wanted by myself. Now if everyone that slays fish kept them all do you really , really , really believe there would be no effect ? seriously ? I've watched these lakes get destroyed before by worm and bobber fishermen keeping as many as they please before the slot limit and it had an effect . Thats why the slot limit was invented. It took many many years for these small lakes to bounce back.

i don't understand. the guy said in his review that he released the fish. but you advertising the huge success of the lake won't decrease the number of trolls that hit it now :P
I was actually thinking about G and K today vs Kapowsin.... now i know where I'm going! LOL man that fish was a PIG! congrats to the angler.

Most likely he used the rope as tournament guys do with their livewell bouys and ran it throgh the mouth. He probably hung it over the side of the boat or inserted the rope so to not loose the fish while getting to the camera.. It may have not been the best thing but the fish would have still been releasable....

I still have no idea what bucket is talking about:scratch: . Maybe I`m just not with it. I clicked on the report and read something about measuring. But I don`t know how you guys can tell all of that from the report. Maybe I haven`t been around long enough. So I`ll just keep my mouth shut on this one.
RE:Nothing to see here , move along lol .
Bmc fishes a lot of the same lakes I do. I can understand his frustration.

Not sure if my venting was the correct action , but I tell ya what ,, I felt a lot better after lol . It was enlightening. Sorry to anyone I offended and yes I did draw conclusions. I think my efforts would be better served lobbying the wdfw to ban the retention of LMB over 12" from lakes less then 500 surface acers or all together , exept in the event of a officialy orginized fishing derby/tourney . I think thats where I'll take my argument.tnj8222 wrote:Bmc fishes a lot of the same lakes I do. I can understand his frustration.
james griffin I'm really sorry for personally attacking you. I was out of line to draw conclusions and to not even take a carefull read of your report. Maybe you changed it , I'm uncertain , but it was still out of character and out of line and for that I do apologize.

on the flip side, I didn't land anything worth talking about on Special K today. but it sure was a sunny/warm day!
RE:Nothing to see here , move along lol .
Yup. Altho I really liked the fog that rolled in just after sunup. Suppose to be overcast tomorrow. YEAH! Gonna try it again, but a diffrent part of the lake, and different method.Dustin07 wrote:on the flip side, I didn't land anything worth talking about on Special K today. but it sure was a sunny/warm day!

Post front is always tough. Tomorrow or Monday should be better. Will either go to trout killarny or north. All put out pretty good for am topwater. Buzzbaits at trout or walk the dog at north with a spook. decisions decisions lol.Dustin07 wrote:on the flip side, I didn't land anything worth talking about on Special K today. but it sure was a sunny/warm day!

You might be on something, at least designate several lakes in Washington not to retain fish over 12". Maybe a pilot program.
The key is that people will need to harvest bass under 12", a C&R lake will just do the complete opposite, I've seen it happen.

that makes sense. I saw a few nice rises in the lillys, something was striking the surface, but nearly as much action as what i saw on sawyer yesteday. grr... I got work to do, but maybe I'll sneak out for a butt crack of dawn fish off and see if my odds improve. i tend to get bored when I fish by myself too and either rotate lures more or move areas. Maybe I'll see if my old man wants to join me and keep me balanced, LOL.

I hope your blood pressure doesn't cause a blown gasket BMC. And I agree, if you really cared about the fisheries that much you could make it a personal goal to petition WDFW and get regulations changed. People who post on web sites just to rant but don't do anything meaningful positive are deluding themselves. So I guess this is a challenge to you - use your energies and make a difference.

That's what I'm talking about! Take your energy, your passion, and make a differnce. Use this web site to organize like minded individuals and make it real, not some web site rant that may satisfy your initial frustration but does nothing to change the situation.
Look at what the muskie guys did with the new 50" size limit on muskies. We live in an amazing country where people CAN make a difference. They just have to have the will, the certainity of your convictions, and the commitment to do it.
So go do it.
